The 2011 Military Bowl Presented by Northrop Grumman, the fourth edition of the game, was a post-season American college football bowl game, held on December 28, 2011, at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C. as part of the 2011–12 NCAA bowl season. The game, which telecast at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPN, featured the Air Force Falcons from the Mountain West Conference versus the Toledo Rockets from the Mid-American Conference. 2011 Air Force Falcons Football Team
The 2011 Air Force Falcons football team represented the United States Air Force Academy in the 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Falcons were led by fifth-year head coach Troy Calhoun and played their home games at Falcon Stadium. They are members of the Mountain West Conference. They finished the season 7–6, 3–4 in Mountain West play to finish in fifth place. They were invited to the Military Bowl where they were defeated by Toledo, 42–41. With wins over Army and Navy, Air Force won the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy for the second consecutive year. The Military Bowl is a post-season National Collegiate Athletic Association-sanctioned Division I college football bowl game that has been played annually each December in the Washington metropolitan area since 2008. The game was originally held at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C. before moving to Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland in 2013. The 2014 through 2019 games featured teams from the American Athletic Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference. During initial planning stages, the game was known as the Congressional Bowl, but was first played in 2008 as the EagleBank Bowl sponsored by Washington-area financial institution EagleBank. The game became the Military Bowl when Northrop Grumman was the title sponsor from 2010 to 2019. An option offense is an American football offensive system in which a key player (usually the quarterback) has several "options" of how each play will proceed based upon the actions of the defense. Traditionally, option-based offenses rely on running plays, though most mix in forward passes from an option formation as a change of pace. In gridiron football, a two-point conversion or two-point convert is a play a team attempts instead of kicking a one-point conversion immediately after it scores a touchdown.
