2011 MLS Re-Entry Draft
The two-stage 2011 MLS Re-Entry Draft took place on December 5, 2011 (Stage 1) and December 12, 2011 (Stage 2). All 19 Major League Soccer clubs participated. The Stage 1 and Stage 2 Drafts were conducted in the same order as the traditional Waiver Draft, with clubs choosing in reverse order of their 2011 Major League Soccer season finish. Expansion side Montreal Impact selected 19th. MLS Re-Entry Draft
The MLS Re-Entry Draft is an annual event in which Major League Soccer teams select players who are out of contract or have had their options declined by their current teams. Although the single-entity league does not have true free agency, the re-entry draft was created to provide an outlet of internal movement for veteran players. History The Re-Entry Draft was created by the collective bargaining agreement reached in March 2010. Under the previous rules, clubs could hold what amounted to a 48-hour first right of refusal on players whose contracts had expired or did not have the options picked up. This was a significant obstacle to a new agreement during negotiations during the 2009-10 MLS offseason. Mariano Trujillo
Edgar Mariano Trujillo Reyes (born May 19, 1977, in Mexico City) is a Mexican former professional footballer and current analyst for Fox Deportes. Career Professional Trujillo made his professional debut with UNAM Pumas on October 26, 1996, in a 3–0 win over Toluca. In the Verano 2001 he transferred to Santos Laguna, when Santos won the Verano 2001 championship. Trujillo went back with Pumas in the Invierno 2001, where he would leave until the 2003 Apertura to Monarcas Morelia. With Morelia he would play until the 2007 Clausura, and would feature in more games than with any other team. In 2007, Trujillo signed a 2-year contract with Skoda Xanthi of Greece, but for personal reasons, he left the team. Trujillo played with Atlante for the Clausura 2008. Clyde Simms
Clyde Simms (born August 21, 1982) is an American former soccer player. He played in Major League Soccer from 2005 to 2013. He also represented the United States at international level. Career College Born in Jamestown, North Carolina, and attended Southwest Guilford High School in High Point, North Carolina. Simms played college soccer at East Carolina University from 2000 to 2003, where he appeared in 72 games and notched seven goals and seven assists. He was team captain his final three years. Professional Simms went undrafted by Major League Soccer after college and instead signed with Richmond Kickers of the A-League. Santino Quaranta
Santino Quaranta (born October 14, 1984) is an American former soccer player. Career Youth Quaranta partially attended Baltimore's Archbishop Curley High School for his freshman and sophomore years, where he started both years, and was recognized as one of the top soccer players in the state. Quaranta did not play college soccer, and instead spent time with the US U-17 national team at the IMG Soccer Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he achieved exceptional success. Professional Quaranta was drafted eighth overall in the 2001 MLS SuperDraft by D.C. United. At 16 years, four months, Quaranta surpassed fellow DC player Bobby Convey to become the youngest player in the history of Major League Soccer, a record which would subsequently be taken by another DC player, Freddy Adu. Joseph Ngwenya
Joseph Ngwenya (born March 30, 1981 in Plumtree) is a Zimbabwean footballer. Career College Ngwenya attended the Mzilikazi High School in Bulawayo, leading them to the 1999 Zimbabwe National High School Championship, before moving to the United States in 2000 to attend and play college soccer at Coastal Carolina University. He led the NCAA in scoring with 21 goals and 14 assists and was named a First Team All-American in 2003. During his college years he also played in the USL Premier Development League for Cape Cod Crusaders who he led to a PDL title, scoring with 17 goals in 13 games. Kurt Morsink Ramos (born June 27, 1984) is an American-Costa Rican retired soccer player. Career College and amateur Morsink was born on June 27, 1984, in Orlando, Florida, from American father and Costa Rican mother. From childhood, he raised in San José, Costa Rica. Devon McTavish (born August 8, 1984 in Winchester, Virginia) is a retired American soccer player. He played his entire professional career from 2006 to 2011 for D.C. United in Major League Soccer. Career Youth and college McTavish attended James Wood High School and played club soccer for the Chantilly-based FC Cannons under coach Mike Volpe. McTavish played college soccer for West Virginia University from 2002 to 2005. He is ranked third all-time in school history with 75 appearances for the Mountaineers. Steve Michael Cronin (born May 28, 1983 in Sacramento, California) is a retired American soccer player who most recently played for D.C. United of Major League Soccer. Career College and Amateur Cronin played college soccer at Santa Clara University from 2001 to 2003. Seattle Sounders Football Club is an American professional men's soccer club based in Seattle. The Sounders compete as a member of the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS). The club was established on November 13, 2007, and began play in 2009 as an MLS expansion team. The Sounders are a phoenix club, carrying the same name as the original Sounders franchise that competed in the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1974 to 1983. Marc Burch (born May 7, 1984 in Cincinnati, Ohio) is an American soccer player. Career College and amateur Burch played college soccer at the University of Evansville for three seasons from 2002–2004, scoring seven goals and assisting on 22 along the way, and spent the summer months playing for the Cleveland Internationals in the USL Premier Development League. Brandon Barklage (born November 2, 1986) is an American soccer player. Career Youth and college During Barklage's youth career he primarily played for Lou Fusz S.C. In 2004, he led Scott Gallagher to a USYSA national championship. Barklage also attended Christian Brothers College High School (CBC) in St. Louis. Jeff Cunningham
Jeff Cunningham (born August 21, 1976) is an American former professional soccer player who played as a forward. He is Major League Soccer's third-all-time leader in regular-season goals scored with 134. Youth and college Cunningham was born in Jamaica, but moved to Crystal River, Florida at the age of fourteen. He played college soccer at the University of South Florida from 1994 to 1997.
