2011 Jersey General Election
General elections were held in Jersey on 19 October 2011 to elect 45 members of the States Assembly. This was the first time Senators, Deputies and Constables were elected on a single day in Jersey. The number of members of the States of Jersey was reduced from 53 to 51. Six Senators who had been elected in 2008 for a period of six years did not face election in 2011. Nominations Nominations for candidates took place on 6 September at the Town Hall, St Helier, Jersey for the four Senatorial seats and at each parish hall on 7 September for the twelve Constable and twenty nine Deputy seats. The States Assembly (french: Assemblée des États; Jèrriais: ) is the parliament of Jersey, formed of the island's 37 deputies and the Connétable of each of the twelve parishes. The origins of the legislature of Jersey lie in the system of self-government according to Norman law guaranteed to the Channel Islands by John, King of England, following the division of Normandy in 1204. Terry Le Main (born November 1939) is a former Jersey politician. Biography Terence John Le Main was born in November 1939 in Jersey. He was educated at Hautlieu Grammar School. Electoral history He was first elected to the States of Jersey as Deputy of Saint Helier No. 2 in 1978 (re-elected 1984). He was elected as Senator in 1994 and re-elected in 1990. In the 1996 Senatorial election he was ousted in 7th place with 9,578 votes. Geoff Southern is a Jersey politician, and former teacher. He has been a deputy in the States of Jersey since winning a by-election, on 15 February 2002, and has chaired two scrutiny panels. Biography Southern was born in Manchester.
