2011 IRB Pacific Nations Cup
The 2011 Pacific Nations Cup was a rugby union tournament held between the four national sides on the Pacific Rim: Fiji national rugby union team, Fiji, Japan national rugby union team, Japan, Samoa national rugby union team, Samoa and Tonga national rugby union team, Tonga. Samoa national rugby union team, Samoa was the reigning champion after they defeated Fiji national rugby union team, Fiji in the 2010 IRB Pacific Nations Cup, 2010 competition at Apia Park. The tournament began on July 2 and ended on July 13, 2011 with most of the matches hosted by Fiji. Only the match between Asian 5 Nations champion, Japan national rugby union team, Japan and Samoa national rugby union team, Samoa was played at Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium in Japan. Asian 5 Nations
The Asia Rugby Championship, or ARC, is an annual rugby union competition held amongst national rugby sides within the Asia Rugby region. The competition was originally known as the Asian Rugby Football Tournament when founded in 1969, and was called the Asian Five Nations from 2008 to 2014. The winner of the competition's top division is recognised as the rugby champion of Asia. The top division, sometimes referred to as the Tri Nations, includes the top three Asian teams each season. Division 1 includes the next four teams and Division 2 includes the next four. Churchill Park (Lautoka)
Churchill Park is a multi-purpose stadium in Lautoka, Fiji. It is currently used mostly for football matches and hosts the home matches of Lautoka F.C. Nicky Little
Nicky Tyrone Little (born 13 September 1976) in Tokoroa, New Zealand, is a rugby union footballer. He plays at fly-half. He is a nephew of All Blacks centre Walter Little, but represents Fiji at international level. Career He has scored 652 points for Fiji and is the Pacific region's second highest point scorer of players who are currently active. He previously played for Canterbury and North Harbour in New Zealand provincial rugby, before moving to England where he played for the Sale Sharks in late 1999. He signed with Dax in France, but soon moved to Pontypridd, before signing with the Saracens. Malakai Ravulo (born 22 September 1983) is a Fijian rugby union player. He is a loose forward but spent most of his youth playing as a centre. He presently plays his rugby with the North Harbour rugby team in New Zealand. Sekonaia Kalou
Sekonaia Kalou (born April 6, 1984) is a Fijian professional rugby union player who is also known by the name Sekonaia Qaranaqio. He has also represented Fiji at Netball. Rugby career Club career Sekonaia played lock for the Kaikorai Rugby Football Club and for Otago in the ITM Cup. He has also played for the 2nd Division New Zealand club North Otago with whom he won the Heartland Championship playing alongside fellow Fijian players Viliame Veikoso, Noa Soqeta and Waitisoni Lotawa. Sona Taumalolo
Sona Taumalolo (born 13 November 1981) is a former professional rugby union player. He played at prop for in New Zealand's domestic Mitre 10 Cup competition; the in Super Rugby; several French clubs; and the Tonga national team. He retired at the end of the 2020 Mitre 10 Cup season. Viliame Iongi
Viliame "Pila" Iongi (born 8 August 1989) is a Tongan national rugby union player. He has played for Tonga. Iongi has 12 caps for Tonga and scored seven tries, four coming on his debut in the Churchill Cup against United States. Iongi played in Australia with the Queanbeyan Whites for two seasons, winning the ACTRU Premier Division title in 2010. His impressive performances in 2010 earned him a spot in the Brumbies academy for the 2011 season. In October 2011, Iongi signed for the Llanelli-based Welsh regional side, the Scarlets. Try (rugby)
A try is a way of scoring points in rugby union and rugby league football. A try is scored by grounding the ball in the opposition's in-goal area (on or behind the goal line). Rugby union and league differ slightly in defining "grounding the ball" and the "in-goal" area. In rugby union a try is worth 5 points, in rugby league a try is worth 4 points. The term "try" comes from "try at goal", signifying that grounding the ball originally only gave the attacking team the opportunity to try to score with a kick at goal.
