Triple Jump
The triple jump, sometimes referred to as the hop, step and jump or the hop, skip and jump, is a track and field event, similar to the long jump. As a group, the two events are referred to as the "horizontal jumps". The competitor runs down the track and performs a hop, a bound and then a jump into the sand pit. The triple jump was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games and has been a modern Olympics event since the Games' inception in 1896. According to World Athletics rules, "the hop shall be made so that an athlete lands first on the same foot as that from which he has taken off; in the step he shall land on the other foot, from which, subsequently, the jump is performed." 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships
The 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships was held in Christchurch, New Zealand from January 21 to 30, 2011. Athletes with a disability competed, and the Championships was a qualifying event for the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Ove1000 athletescompeted, including Oscar Pistorius, the ''Blade Runner'', who competed in class T44 at the 100m, 4 × 100 m relay, 200m, and 400m events. A warm-up meet, with free entry for the audience, was held on Friday January 14. Estimates placed the total visitor spend in the city at around $12 million. Venue The championship was staged in the 20,000-seat Queen Elizabeth II Park stadium that was built in 1973 for the 1974 British Commonwealth Games. Three weeks after the championship closed, the venue was damaged beyond repair in the 22 February 2011 Christchurch earthquake and has since been demolished. Queen Elizabeth II Park
Queen Elizabeth II Park was a multi-use stadium in Christchurch, New Zealand, located in a large park of the same name. The stadium had a capacity of 25,000 people and was built in 1973 to host the 1974 British Commonwealth Games, with a temporary 10,000 seat western stand erected for that event to take the capacity to 35,000. The stadium suffered some damage in the September 2010 Canterbury earthquake but was able to reopen, only to be damaged beyond repair in February 2011 Christchurch earthquake. Li Duan (; born 1978) is a blind Chinese Paralympic athlete competing mainly in F11 jumping events. He became blind after an explosion on 11 September 1996. Before that he was a professional basketball player who played for the Chinese Basketball Association team Shenyang Army during the 1995–96 CBA season. He competed in the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, Australia. Huseyn Hasanov (born 26 September 1986) is a Paralympian athlete from Azerbaijan competing mainly in T46 classification track and field events. Hasanov represented his country at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, where he competed in two events, the long jump and triple jump. He finished on the podium in the long jump, taking the bronze medal but was unable to improve on his first jump of 13.74 in the triple jump leaving him in fourth place. As well as Paralympic success, Hasanov has medaled at the IPC World Championships winning gold in the triple jump at the 2011 World Championships in Christchurch.
