2011 Extreme Sailing Series
The 2011 Extreme Sailing Series is the fifth edition of the sailing series. This is the second year without the original sponsor iShares. The 2011 series started in Muscat, Oman on 22 February 2011 and ended in Almeria, Spain on 11 December 2011 and took place in 9 cities around the world. Acts Act 1: Muscat, Oman The first act of the series was held in Muscat, Oman between 22 and 24 February 2011. Act 2: Qingdao, China Qingdao, China was the second act for the 2011 series, and was held on 15–17 April 2011. Act 3: Istanbul, Turkey Istanbul, Turkey was the host of the third act of the 2011 series, on the weekend of 27–29 May 2011. Extreme 40
The Extreme 40 is a class of sailing catamaran created by TornadoSport and designed by Yves Loday. The boats are 40 feet long and are constructed out of carbon fibre. They have a top speed of about and can sail at about in 20–25 knots of wind The first extreme 40 was launched in 2005. They were sailed in the Extreme Sailing Series, formerly known as the iShares Cup. Extreme 40s are essentially a scaled-up version of the Tornado sailboat used in The Olympics. Cowes Week
Cowes Week ( ) is one of the longest-running regular regattas in the world. With 40 daily sailing races, up to 1,000 boats, and 8,000 competitors ranging from Olympic and world-class professionals to weekend sailors, it is the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world. Having started in 1826, the event is held in August each year on the Solent (the area of water between southern England and the Isle of Wight made tricky by strong double tides), and is run by Cowes Week Limited in the small town of Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Description Cowes Week is held at the beginning of August, set after Glorious Goodwood in the social calendar, which in most years means from the first Saturday after the last Tuesday in July, until the following Saturday. It is occasionally moved to another week if the state of the tides in the normal week is unfavourable or, as in 2012, to avoid a clash with the Olympic Games. Adam Beashel
Adam Beashel is an Australian sailor. He is best known for being part of Team New Zealand at the 2003 America's Cup and strategist for Emirates Team New Zealand at the 2007 America's Cup. Beashel was part of the '' oneAustralia'' team that came second in the 1995 Louis Vuitton Cup. He is also a 49er sailor. Together with Teague Czislowski, he came second in that class at the 1999 World Championships to Chris Nicholson and Ed Smyth. He and Czislowski won the national selection process for the 2000 Olympics in the 49er class, but the Australian Yachting Federation instead nominated Nicholson and Daniel Phillips for the sole spot at the Olympics as they were considered better possibilities for a medal. Dean Barker (born 8 April 1973) is a New Zealand yachtsman. He is best known internationally for his participation in America's Cup yacht races. Early life and family Barker was born in 1973 in Takapuna, New Zealand. Barker's father is the New Zealander Ray Barker of the Barkers Clothing retail chain. Dean Barker was educated at Westlake Boys High School. Barker married former New Zealand field hockey representative Mandy Smith in February 2004. Rodney Ardern is a New Zealand sailor who has competed in multiple America's Cups and Volvo Ocean Races. Ardern attended the University of Auckland, where he studied chemistry. He was a part of New Zealand Challenge at the 1992 Louis Vuitton Cup before sailing in the 1993–94 Whitbread Round the World Race on board '' Tokio''. Santiago Raúl Lange (born September 22, 1961 in San Isidro, Argentina) is an Argentine Olympic sailor and a naval architect. Terry Hutchinson (born May 20, 1968) is an American sailor eleven-time world champion in the Corel 45, J/24, TP 52, Farr 40 and IMS classes, and a winning tactician of the Louis Vuitton Cup. In 2008 and 2014, he was named Rolex Yachtsman of the Year. He has also been part of five America's Cup campaigns. Background He grew up in Annapolis, Maryland and went to St. Mary's High School.
