2011 Edmonton Eskimos Season
The Edmonton Eskimos season was the 54th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 63rd overall. The Eskimos improved upon their 7–11 record from 2010, after winning their eighth game on October 10, 2011, while also securing a berth in the playoffs in that same game. The Eskimos finished in 2nd place in the West Division with an 11–7 record and hosted a playoff game for the first time since 2004, ending the CFL's longest active drought. The Eskimos defeated their Alberta rivals, the Calgary Stampeders, 33–19 in the West Semi-Final, but lost to the BC Lions 40–23 in the West Final. Kavis Reed
Kavis Reed (born February 24, 1973) is a former Canadian Football League (CFL) defensive back, head coach and general manager. He was most recently the GM of the Montreal Alouettes from December 2016 until July 2019. He also served three years as the head coach of the Edmonton Eskimos, leading them to one West Final game. He played professionally as a defensive back for the Eskimos from 1995 to 1999. Playing career Reed played for the Edmonton Eskimos from 1995 to 1999. He was named a CFL All-Star in 1997 and played in his first and only Grey Cup which was a loss to the Toronto Argonauts. In the following off-season, he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in February 1998 but soon after re-joined the Eskimos in August 1998. He suffered a career-ending neck injury in 1999 and retired soon after. He finished his professional playing career with 205 tackles, 20 interceptions, and five touchdowns in 67 games played. 2012 CFL Draft
The 2012 CFL Draft took place on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 3:00 PM ET on TSN. 45 players were chosen from among eligible players from Canadian Universities across the country, as well as Canadian players playing in the NCAA. The Calgary Stampeders had the most selections with eight, while Hamilton had seven picks. The Toronto Argonauts and Montreal Alouettes each had six and the Edmonton Eskimos and Winnipeg Blue Bombers had five picks. The defending Grey Cup champion BC Lions and the Saskatchewan Roughriders had the fewest selections with just four. A total of three trades involving 11 draft picks in this draft were made on the draft day itself. Of the 45 draft selections, 24 players were drafted from Canadian Interuniversity Sport institutions, which is the lowest percentage of CIS players taken since 2006 (26 of 50, 52%, were selected then). Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a professional Canadian football team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Blue Bombers compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member club of the league's West division. They play their home games at IG Field. The Blue Bombers were founded in 1930 as the Winnipeg Rugby Football Club, later changed to the Winnipeg Football Club, which is the organization's legal name. Liam Mahoney (born December 13, 1987) is a professional Canadian football wide receiver who is currently a free agent. He was drafted 41st overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2011 CFL Draft, but was released during training camp. He subsequently signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on July 25, 2011. Quincy Byrum Hurst (September 21, 1918 – December 4, 2006) was an American lawyer, judge, banker, and state legislator in Arkansas. He served in the Arkansas Senate for 22 years, including as President of the Arkansas Senate. He joined the Army in 1943 and later served as judge in Garland County. Delroy Clarke (born December 29, 1982) is a Canadian football former cornerback. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2008 CFL Draft by the Toronto Argonauts. He played CIS Football for the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
