2011 Dubai World Cup
The 2011 Dubai World Cup was a horse race held at Meydan Racecourse on Saturday 26 March 2011. It was the 16th running of the Dubai World Cup. The winner was Yoshimi Ichikawa's Victoire Pisa, a four-year-old dark bay or brown colt trained in Japan by Katsuhiko Sumii and ridden by Mirco Demuro. Victoire Pisa's victory was the first in the race for his jockey, trainer and owner and the first for a horse trained in Japan. Victoire Pisa had been the champion three-year-old colt in Japan in 2010 when he had won the Satsuki Shō and the Arima Kinen. Before being sent to Dubai he had been campaigned exclusively on turf: the World Cup was his first race on a synthetic surface. In the 2011 Dubai World Cup he started a 20/1 outsider and won by half a length from another Japanese horse Transcend (a dirt specialist), with the Godolphin runner Monterosso a neck away in third. Christophe Soumillon
Christophe Soumillon (born 4 June 1981) is a Belgian jockey based in France. Career Coming from a racing background, Soumillon is the son of jump jockey Jean-Marc Soumillon. He rode in pony races and left Belgium aged fifteen to go to the racing school in Chantilly, France, where he was then apprenticed to trainer Cédric Boutin. Soumillon rode his first Group race winner aged eighteen when Berine's Son, trained by André Fabre, won the 2000 Prix de Fontainebleau. The following season he won four Group 1 races, including the Prix du Jockey Club on Anabaa. Soumillon won the cravache d'or (the golden whip or French champion jockey title) for the first time in 2003 and won his tenth title in 2018. Marco Botti (born 23 December 1976) is an Italian racehorse trainer who is based in Great Britain, working from his stable ''Prestige Place'' in Newmarket, Suffolk. Botti is the son of Alduino Botti, a champion racehorse trainer in Italy, and worked for trainers Luca Cumani, Ed Dunlop and the Godolphin Racing organization before becoming a trainer in his own right. Johnny Murtagh (born 14 May 1970) is an Irish flat racing trainer and former jockey from Bohermeen, near Navan, Kells, County Meath. As a jockey he won many of the major flat races in Europe, including all the Irish Classics, all the Group 1 Races at Royal Ascot, The Derby, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes and Europe's biggest race the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Christophe Clement (born November 1, 1965 in Paris, France) is a Thoroughbred horse trainer in the United States who won the 2014 Belmont Stakes with Tonalist. Racing background Clement initially acquired his training skills from his father, Miguel, a leading trainer in France. Christophe later worked for the prominent French racing family of trainer Alec Head.
