2011 Diamond Head Classic
The 2011 Diamond Head Classic was a mid-season eight-team college basketball tournament played on December 22, 23, and 25 at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. It was the third annual Diamond Head Classic tournament and was part of the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Kansas State defeated Long Beach State to win the tournament championship. Rodney McGruder was named the tournament's MVP. 2011–12 Kansas State Wildcats Men's Basketball Team
The 2011–12 Kansas State Wildcats men's basketball team represented Kansas State University in the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The head coach was Frank Martin, who served in his 5th year at the helm of the Wildcats. The team played its home games in Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kansas, as they have done so since 1988. The 2011–12 Long Beach State 49ers men's basketball team represented California State University, Long Beach during the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The 49ers, led by fifth year head coach Dan Monson, played their home games at Walter Pyramid and are members of the Big West Conference. They finished the season 25–9, 15–1 in Big West play to be crowned regular season champions. Francisco José Martin (born March 23, 1966) is an American basketball coach serving as the head coach for the University of Massachusetts men's basketball team. Martin was previously the head coach of the University of South Carolina men's basketball team for ten seasons. Prior to that, he was the head coach of Kansas State University for five seasons. Martin has led his teams to a total of five NCAA tournaments and 1 Final Four appearance as a head coach. He was named the Big 12 Conference Men's Basketball Coach of the Year in 2010. Rodney Christian McGruder (born July 29, 1991) is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Kansas State Wildcats. College career McGruder, a 6'4" shooting guard from Landover, Maryland, was an AAU teammate of Michael Beasley's and followed Beasley's path to Kansas State to play for coach Frank Martin. McGruder started for three seasons for the Wildcats. As a sophomore in 2010–11, McGruder teamed with backcourt mate Jacob Pullen to lead the Wildcats to a third place Big 12 Conference finish.
