The 2011 Carolina Challenge Cup was a four-team round robin pre-season competition hosted by the Charleston Battery. The 2011 Carolina Challenge Cup was contested among Charleston Battery, Chicago Fire, D.C. United, and Toronto FC, with D.C. United emerging as repeat champions. Charleston Battery
The Charleston Battery are an American professional association football, soccer club based in Charleston, South Carolina, and member of the USL Championship. Founded in 1993, the Battery are one of the oldest continuously operating professional soccer clubs in the United States, tied with the Richmond Kickers. Charleston are one of the more successful lower division soccer clubs in the United States, having won the USISL Pro League in 1996, the USL A-League in 2003, and the final season of the USL Second Division in 2010. In 2012, the team won the USL Pro Championship, winning its fourth league title in club history. Charleston are also the most successful club in the history of the unofficial Southern Derby competition with nine first-place finishes. Stephen Armstrong
Stephen Armstrong (born 23 July 1976 in Birkenhead) is an English-born South African former footballer who spent the majority of his career with clubs in the United States. Career College and amateur Armstrong was born in Birkenhead, England and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. He came to the United States to attend Butler University in Indiana and finished as the school's third all-time leading scorer with 43 goals and 16 assists. During his college career Armstrong also played for the Mid-Michigan Bucks in the Premier Development League. Professional Armstrong was selected in the second round – 13th overall – of the 2000 MLS SuperDraft by D.C. Joseph Ngwenya
Joseph Ngwenya (born March 30, 1981 in Plumtree) is a Zimbabwean footballer. Career College Ngwenya attended the Mzilikazi High School in Bulawayo, leading them to the 1999 Zimbabwe National High School Championship, before moving to the United States in 2000 to attend and play college soccer at Coastal Carolina University. He led the NCAA in scoring with 21 goals and 14 assists and was named a First Team All-American in 2003. During his college years he also played in the USL Premier Development League for Cape Cod Crusaders who he led to a PDL title, scoring with 17 goals in 13 games. Professional Ngwenya was drafted third overall of the 2004 MLS SuperDraft by Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer. Maicon dos Santos Corrêa (born 18 April 1984) is a retired Brazilian footballer who last played as a forward for Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the North American Soccer League. Career Maicon started his career at Madureira, where he was awarded a contract until the end of 2005. He signed a contract extension until April 2008 in early 2006, but left for Étoile du Sahel on 9 August 2006. During his career in North Africa he also played on loan to Al-Nasr (Benghazi). Dwayne Anthony De Rosario OOnt (born May 15, 1978) is a Canadian former professional soccer player, who played as a forward or as an attacking midfielder. Nathan Radford Sturgis (born July 6, 1987) is an American former soccer player who last played for Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer. Career Youth and college Sturgis attended Nease High School, played club soccer with the First Coast KYX, and played two years of college soccer at Clemson University. Michael Rory Zaher (born September 24, 1985 in Phoenix, Arizona) is a former American soccer player. Career College and amateur Zaher attended Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, whom he led to the Nevada high school state championship in 2002; he scored 34 goals as a senior, 25 as a junior, 13 as a sophomore and six as a freshman for a total of 78 career goals. Charles Desmond Davies (born June 25, 1986) is an American former professional soccer player who played as a forward. Davies set several soccer records at his high school, the Brooks School, before appearing for the Boston College Eagles and the Westchester Flames in college. Davies signed his first professional contract with Swedish Allsvenskan club Hammarby IF in December 2006 before joining Sochaux in July 2009.
