Elections to Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council took place on Thursday 5 May 2011. There were 17 seats up for election, one third of the council. After the election the council continued to have no overall control and continue to be run by a coalition between the Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats. During 2011 the Liberal Democrat councillor for the Warley Ward Robert Pearson left the Liberal Democrats and spent the remainder of his time on the council as an Independent Liberal Democrat. Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council
Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council is the local authority of the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale in West Yorkshire, England. The council styles itself Calderdale Council. It is a metropolitan district council, one of five in West Yorkshire and one of 36 in the metropolitan counties of England, and provides the majority of local government services in Calderdale. Since 1 April 2014 it has been a constituent council of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. Premises The council is based at Halifax Town Hall, which had been built for one of the council's predecessors, the Halifax Borough Council, in 1863. Elections Electoral arrangements Calderdale is divided into 17 wards, each ward having three councillors for a total of 51 councillors. Calderdale is a metropolitan borough of West Yorkshire, England, whose population in 2020 was 211,439. It takes its name from the River Calder, and dale, a word for valley. The name Calderdale usually refers to the borough through which the upper river flows, while the actual landform is known as the Calder Valley. Several small valleys contain tributaries of the River Calder. Calderdale covers part of the South Pennines, and the Calder Valley is the southernmost of the Yorkshire Dales, though it is not part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The borough was formed in 1974 by the merger of six local government districts, from east to west Brighouse, Elland, Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Bridge and Todmorden. Scott Benton (politician)
Scott Lloyd Benton (born 1 July 1987) is the Member of Parliament for Blackpool South, holding office since the 2019 United Kingdom general election. A member of the Conservative Party, he was previously a councillor on Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council. On 5 April 2023 Benton had the Conservative Party whip suspended while the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards investigates a fake lobbying role he was offered by reporters from ''The Times''. Craig Whittaker (born 30 August 1962) is a British politician who served as Government Deputy Chief Whip and Treasurer of the Household from September to October 2022. A member of the Conservative Party, he previously served as a Lord Commissioner of the Treasury from January 2018 to April 2019 and again from July to September 2022. Whittaker was first elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Calder Valley in 2010. He retained the seat in the 2015, 2017 and 2019 general elections.
