Glasgow Film Theatre
The Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) is an independent cinema in the city centre of Glasgow. GFT is a registered charity. It occupies a purpose-built cinema building, first opened in 1939, and now protected as a category B listed building. History and architecture GFT's predecessor, the Cosmo, was Scotland's first arts cinema and only the second purpose-built arthouse in Britain, after the Curzon Mayfair in London. Opened on 18 May 1939, it was also the last cinema to be built in Glasgow before the outbreak of WW2. The Cosmo arrived at the close of an important decade for British film culture. With the advent of sound in film, language became a barrier and popular films from the continent quickly disappeared from British screens. In Glasgow, audiences for world cinema were served by the Film Society of Glasgow. Naysun Alae-Carew
Naysun Alae-Carew is a Scottish film producer and editor. He is best known for the film, ''Anna and the Apocalypse'' which was nominated for the Best Feature Film accolade at the 2018 British Academy Scotland Awards. The film was based on the short film ''Zombie Musical'' which earned him the Beat Producer: Short Form accolade at the 2011 British Academy Scotland New Talent Awards. British Academy Scotland Awards
The British Academy Scotland Awards are presented annually at an awards ceremony organised by BAFTA Scotland. History The annual British Academy Scotland Awards were launched in 2004 to recognise outstanding achievement by individuals working in the Film and Television industry in Scotland. A long list of potential nominees is put to a popular vote of BAFTA Scotland members. A jury of industry professionals vote for the overall winner from the short list created by the members. A members of the BAFTA Scotland Committee will chair each of the juries. The awards were cancelled in 2010 and prizes at the 2011 ceremony given for films released over the previous 2 years. Alexander Horowitz
Alexander Horowitz (born January 1991) is a British composer and pianist. He studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Glasgow School of Art. Horowitz received a BAFTA New Talent nomination in 2011. In 2013, Horowitz created the score for the Scottish short film '' The Groundsman'', starring David O'Hara. The same year, Horowitz created a score for the theatre show Toi Toi Toi. Horowitz's score blended themes from Mozart, Rossini, and Giuseppe Verdi with his original compositions. In 2020, Horowitz accompanied the harpist Heidi Krutzen for a performance of Alexander Scriabin's Etude. He is the audio director at Improbable in London, and was previously head of audio at the games division of The Imaginarium in London, and the audio lead at Studio Gobo in Hove, which produced ''Hogwarts Legacy''. Graham Fitzpatrick
Graham Fitzpatrick is a Scottish film director and screenwriter. Biography Graham Fitzpatrick was raised in the Edinburgh's Royston housing scheme, attending Ainslie Park High School and Broughton High School His YTS traineeship at film workshop Pilton Video offered a basic grounding in film, documentary and drama, working across over sixty productions, including arts and charity films, short films, TV documentaries, mainly as an editor. After directing several short films with Scottish Screen and BBC Scotland funding, Fitzpatrick studied screenwriting at Screen Academy Scotland developing the script for his first short film as writer and director. Entitled ''Mum's Birthday'', the film tells the tale of Alex, a man who must overcome heartbreak to save his relationship with son Stephen on his wife's birthday.
