2011 BSN Finals
The 2011 BSN Finals was the championship series of the 2011 season of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) and the conclusion of the season's playoffs. The champion Capitanes de Arecibo defeated the Piratas de Quebradillas, 4–1, to win their fifth BSN title. The series was held from July to August 1, 2011. The Capitanes hosted Games 1, 3, and 5. Guillermo Diaz was named Most Valuable Player. Background This was the Capitanes twelfth appearance in the BSN Finals, and the Piratas fourteenth. It was the first time each team faced each other in the Finals. The Capitanes had home-court advantage by virtue of a better regular-season record than the Piratas. Baloncesto Superior Nacional
The Baloncesto Superior Nacional, abbreviated as BSN, is the first-tier-level professional men's basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Puerto Rico. It was founded in 1929 and is organized by the Puerto Rican Basketball Federation. The Baloncesto Superior Nacional, which is played under FIBA rules of basketball, rules, currently consists of 12 teams, of which the most successful has been the Vaqueros de Bayamón with 16 titles as of 2022. The league has produced players that have distinguished themselves in the National Basketball Association, NBA, EuroLeague, Spain's Liga ACB, ACB, and other tournaments throughout the world. Raymond Dalmau Coliseum is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico. The coliseum is home to the Piratas de Quebradillas, which competes in Puerto Rico's Baloncesto Superior Nacional. Block (basketball)
In basketball, a block or blocked shot occurs when a defensive player legally deflects a field goal attempt from an offensive player to prevent a score. The defender is not allowed to make contact with the offensive player's hand (unless the defender is also in contact with the ball) or a '' foul'' is called. In order to be legal, the block must occur while the shot is traveling upward or at its apex. A deflected field goal that is made does not count as a blocked shot and simply counts as a successful field goal attempt for shooter plus the points awarded to the shooting team. For the shooter, a blocked shot is counted as a missed field goal attempt. Also, on a shooting foul, a blocked shot cannot be awarded or counted, even if the player who deflected the field goal attempt is different from the player who committed the foul. In basketball, a steal occurs when a defensive player legally causes a turnover by their positive, aggressive action(s). This can be done by deflecting and controlling, or by catching the opponent's pass or dribble of an offensive player. The defender must not touch the offensive player's hands or otherwise a foul is called. Steals are credited to the defensive player who first causes the turnover, even if they do not end up with possession of the live ball. To earn a steal, the defensive player must be the initiator of the action causing the turnover, not just the benefactor. In basketball, an assist is attributed to a player who passes the ball to a teammate in a way that leads directly to a score by field goal, meaning that they were "assisting" in the basket. In basketball, a rebound, sometimes colloquially referred to as a board, is a statistic awarded to a player who retrieves the ball after a missed field goal or free throw. Rebounds in basketball are a routine part in the game; if a shot is successfully made possession of the ball will change, otherwise the rebound allows the defensive team to take possession. David Huertas
David Huertas (born June 2, 1987) is a Puerto Rican professional basketball player for Capitanes de Arecibo of the BSN. He also represents the Puerto Rican national team. College career Huertas committed to play NCAA basketball for the Florida Gators after leading his high school, Arlington Country Day in Jacksonville, Florida, to a state championship in his senior year. In his freshman season for the Gators, he saw action in 35 games off the bench, averaging 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds for the team, en route to the 2006 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament championship. Unhappy with his minor role on the team, Huertas transferred to the Ole Miss Rebels after the season. Huertas sat out the 2006–07 season because of NCAA transfer rules. Daniel Gregg Santiago (born June 24, 1976) is a Puerto Rican former professional basketball player. A center, he had a collegiate career in the NCAA and NAIA. His professional career saw him play in the NBA, the Baloncesto Superior Nacional of Puerto Rico, and overseas. Santiago has played for the Puerto Rican national team since 1998 until 2014, including been part of the 2004 team that defeated the United States at the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece.
