2010–11 Munster Rugby Season
The 2010–11 Munster Rugby season was Munster's tenth season competing in the Celtic League alongside which they also competed in the Heineken Cup for the sixteenth time. They also competed in the European Challenge Cup for the first time after elimination from the Heineken Cup. It was Tony McGahans third season as director of rugby. Summary Munster were drawn in Pool 3 of the Heineken Cup alongside the Ospreys, London Irish and RC Toulon. Munster lost 23–17 away to London Irish, before defeating RC Toulon 45–18 at Thomond Park on 16 October 2010. Munster defeated Ospreys 22–16, but lost the reverse fixture at Liberty Stadium 19–15. In round 5 Munster went to RC Toulon, losing 32–16. As a result of this defeat, Munster failed to qualify for the quarter finals of the Heineken Cup for the first time in 13 years. Thomond Park
Thomond Park is a stadium in Limerick in the Irish province of Munster. The stadium is owned by the Irish Rugby Football Union and has Munster Rugby, Shannon RFC and UL Bohemian RFC as tenants. Limerick FC played home games in Thomond Park from 2013 to 2015 in the League of Ireland while the Markets Field was being redeveloped. CA Brive
Club Athlétique Brive Corrèze Limousin, also referred to as CA Brive, Brive () or CAB, is a French professional rugby union club based in Brive-la-Gaillarde, in the Corrèze department. They compete in the first-tier Top 14 competition. Brive is a historical member of French rugby union, being one of the clubs that spent the most seasons in the best French domestic competition. "''Les Coujous''" also won the Heineken Cup in 1997 as they defeated Leicester Tigers in the final in a glorious 28-9 win. Wian Du Preez
Wian du Preez (born 30 October 1982) is a South African rugby union player, currently playing in France for . He plays as a prop, primarily at loosehead. Du Preez, a native of Free State, played for the Cheetahs from 2007 until 2010. After completing a loan-spell at Munster, he returned to the Cheetahs to play out the 2010 Super 14. Club career Du Preez first played for Munster in late 2009, after he was signed on a three-month loan as injury cover for Marcus Horan. Darragh Hurley
Darragh Hurley (8 October 1985) is a retired Irish rugby union player, who played for Irish provincial side Munster in the Pro12 and Heineken Cup. Hurley played his club rugby with Cork Constitution in the All-Ireland League. His position was prop, usually loosehead. Early life Hurley began playing rugby union with his local rugby club Kinsale RFC at the age of 8. Hurley then made the move to Christian Brothers College Cork where he played Senior Cup rugby and was victorious in 2003. When Hurley left school he joined UCC where he remained for two years. Marcus Horan
Marcus Horan (born 7 September 1977) is a retired Irish rugby union player who played prop for Munster and Ireland. Early life Horan was educated at Scoil Seanain Naofa (Clonlara National School), St. Munchin's College and Limerick Institute of Technology. The current Munster and Ireland prop Dave Kilcoyne is a cousin of Horan's. Munster Horan made his Munster debut in the 1999–00 season, and was part of the winning team that saw Munster crowned Europeans Champions in 2006. He managed to recover from a calf injury that he picked up in training six weeks prior to the final, and played a role in the Heineken Cup final, where Munster defeated Biarritz 23–19. John Hayes (rugby Union)
John James Hayes (born 2 November 1973) is a retired Irish rugby union player who played in the Pro12 and Heineken Cup for Munster. He didn't start playing rugby until he was 18; prior to this he played with the local Cappamore GAA hurling club. It was his size (6 ft 4 in, 19 stone) that enabled him to overcome his late start to the sport. He continues to "follow GAA in Limerick very much and especially hurling". Early rugby Hayes was introduced to the game of rugby union by friends when he joined local rugby club Bruff in County Limerick. He then moved up a grade when he joined Shannon before travelling to Invercargill, New Zealand, where he changed position from lock to prop because he had "bulked up". Tony Buckley
Tony Buckley (born 8 October 1980) is a former Irish rugby union player who played Prop. He was one of the heaviest men playing professional rugby, weighing in at 21 st 10 lbs or 138 kilograms (305 lbs). He wore size 16 boots which had to be custom made for him in Germany. Stephen Archer (born 29 January 1988) is an Irish rugby union player for Munster in the United Rugby Championship and European Rugby Champions Cup. Damien Varley (born 29 October 1983) is a former Irish rugby union player who represented Munster and Ireland. He played as a hooker. Varley was forced to retire from rugby in February 2015, due to a foot injury. Denis Fogarty
Denis Fogarty (born 16 July 1983) is a former Irish rugby union player who played at hooker for Munster, Aurillac, Agen and Provence. He has also represented Ireland at schoolboy, U21 and 'A' level. He was educated at Rockwell College. In May 2016, Fogarty was forced to retire from rugby after suffering a recurrence of a shoulder injury. Jerry Flannery
Jeremiah Paul Flannery (born 17 October 1978) is a former Irish rugby union player and current coach. During his playing career, Flannery, a hooker, played for Munster and Ireland, before being forced to retire in March 2012 due to injury problems. He joined Munster as a coach before leaving in 2019, and, in 2020, joined English Premiership club Harlequins as their lineout coach.
