2010–11 FIS Cross-Country World Cup
The 2010–11 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was a multi-race tournament over the season for cross-country skiers. It was the 30th official World Cup season in cross-country skiing for men and women. The season began on 20 November 2010 in Gällivare, Sweden and ended on 20 March 2011 in Falun, Sweden. The World Cup was organised by the FIS who also run world cups and championships in ski jumping, snowboarding and alpine skiing amongst others. Calendar Both men's and women's events tend to be held at the same resorts over a 2 or 3 day period. The Tour de Ski was a series of events which count towards the World Cup. Falun
Falun () is a city and the seat of Falun Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 37,291 inhabitants in 2010. It is also the capital of Dalarna County. Falun forms, together with Borlänge, a metropolitan area with just over 100,000 inhabitants. Falun was originally famous for its copper mine, and is today an important service and industrial city even though the mine is closed (since 1992). Faluån is a river, flowing through the city, separating it into two sides. Falu copper mine is located on one of the sides which during many centuries was one of Sweden's main business. This side of the river was usually called "the mining side", where not many plants grew due to the toxic smoke which contaminated the soil. On the other side of the river, where the smoke did not reach, set many large villas, which made this side to be called "the delightful side". Sami Jauhojärvi
Sami Jauhojärvi (born 5 May 1981) is a Finnish former cross-country skier who competed between 2000 and 2017. At the 2014 Winter Olympics, he won men's team sprint with Iivo Niskanen. Germany launched a protest over the result due to a final-leg collision between Jauhojärvi and Tim Tscharnke, but it was rejected by the jury. Jauhojärvi's Finland finished fifth in the 4 x 10 km relay in Vancouver in 2010. Jauhojärvi won his first medal at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec with a bronze in the team sprint with Ville Nousiainen, and then added a second in the 4 × 10 km relay. Jauhojärvi has won one World Cup race; in Trondheim 2009 he won the 50 km classic mass start competition. Alexey Poltaranin
Alexey Yurevich Poltoranin ( kk, Алексей Юрьевич Полтаранин, born April 29, 1987) is a Kazakh cross-country skier who has competed at the international senior level since 2004. He has three World Cup wins, one in 2010 and two in 2013. In the 2013 World Championship in Val di Fiemme he won two bronze medals. Most of his best results are in the classic technique. At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 Poltoranin was one of five athletes caught doping by Bundeskriminalamt in a police raid in Seefeld, Austria. He was arrested before the start of the 15 kilometre classical race. He admitted to using blood doping. His wife is biathlete Olga Poltoranina. John Kristian Dahl
John Kristian Dahl (born March 27, 1981) is a Norwegian cross-country skier who competed between 2001 and 2019. His best World Cup finish was second, three times between 2003 and 2008, all in the sprint event. Rukatunturi
Rukatunturi ( fi, Ruka) is a high fell and a ski resort in Kuusamo, Finland. Apart from downhill skiing, there are over 500 km of cross-country skiing tracks. Also snowmobiles can be rented to enjoy some of the area's 600 km of snowmobile routes (of which 100 km are safari organizers' private routes). Ruka is also the southern end of the Karhunkierros hiking trail. The total of trails in Ruka and Kuusamo area is: 160 km of hiking trails, 605 km of biking routes, 350 km of classified paddling routes (including class 1–4 whitewater paddling) and 100 km of boating routes. Jan Olof Daniel Rickardsson (born 15 March 1982) is a Swedish retired cross-country skier who started competing in 2002. Athletic career His best World Cup finish in 2008 was second in two in 4 × 10 km relay events. Rickardsson also competed at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, finishing sixth in the 4 ×10 km relay, 20th in the 15 km, and 31st in the 50 km events. Marcus Hellner
Carl Marcus Joakim Hellner (born 25 November 1985) is a Swedish former cross-country skier who competed between 2003 and 2018. He retired at the end of the 2017-18 FIS World Cup season. Athletic career Hellner had a total of seven victories in the junior levels of cross-country skiing up to 30 km from 2003 to 2005. In Gällivare, Sweden, he took his first world cup win on a 15 km event. Hellner won bronze, his first medal, in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 2007 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Sapporo. Oberhof, Germany
Oberhof is a town in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district of Thuringia, Germany. Located in the Thuringian Forest mountain range, it is a winter sports center and health resort. Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol.
