2010 South Carolina Elections
Elections were held in South Carolina on Tuesday, November 2, 2010. Primary elections were held on June 8, 2010, and a run-off election for certain contests was held on June 22, 2010. Federal United States Senate Republican incumbent Jim DeMint was seeking re-election to the United States Senate, facing Democratic contender Alvin Greene and Green Party candidate Tom Clements. United States House All six of South Carolina's seats in the United States House of Representatives were up for election in 2010. State Governor Incumbent Republican Governor Mark Sanford was term-limited and unable to seek re-election. Florence County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, its population was 137,059. Its county seat is Florence. Florence County is included in the Florence, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county's population is about 60% urban. History Florence County was formed from main sections of Darlington and Marion Counties plus other townships from Williamsburg and Clarendon Counties, starting in 1888. The last section of Williamsburg County was not added until 1921. Florence County was named for the daughter of General W. W. Harlee. Richard Eckstrom
Richard A. Eckstrom (born June 23, 1948) is an American politician from the state of South Carolina. A Republican, he served as the comptroller general of South Carolina from 2003 until his resignation in 2023. From 1995 to 1999, he served one term as the South Carolina Treasurer. When elected as Comptroller General, he was the first Republican to serve in the post since 1876. Early life Eckstrom was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on June 23, 1948. His family moved to Columbia, South Carolina, in 1957, when his father, a professor, took a job at the University of South Carolina (USC). He graduated from USC in 1971 with a bachelor's degree. The Attorney General of South Carolina is the state's chief legal officer and prosecutor. History Alexander Moultrie, half-brother of Revolutionary War figure and future governor William Moultrie, was named the state's first Attorney General under its first state "President", John Rutledge, in 1776. Rutledge had been provincial Attorney General himself for 10 months before independence. Moultrie was impeached and resigned in 1792 for diverting state funds into the Yazoo land company fraud. Thomas Jonathan Jackson Ravenel (born August 11, 1962) is an American politician and reality television star. He is the son of former Representative Arthur Ravenel Jr. from South Carolina.
