2010 Rushmoor Borough Council Election
The 2010 Rushmoor Council election took place on 6 May 2010 to elect members of Rushmoor Borough Council in Hampshire, England. One third of the council was up for election and the Conservative Party stayed in overall control of the council. After the election, the composition of the council was: *Conservative 30 *Liberal Democrat 6 *Labour 6 Election result The results saw the Conservatives retain control of the council after winning 10 of the 14 seats contested, compared to 2 each for the Liberal Democrat and Labour parties. The Conservatives gained one seat from the Liberal Democrats in Farnborough and regained another from the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) where the former councillor had defected from the Conservatives to UKIP. Rushmoor UK Local Election 2010 Map
Rushmoor is a local government district and borough in Hampshire, England. It covers the towns of Aldershot and Farnborough as well as Cove and North Camp. It was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of the borough of Aldershot and the Farnborough urban district. The borough took its name from Rushmoor Arena, a military showground constructed at Rushmoor Bottom in 1923. In May 2000, a referendum was held on whether to change the name of the borough. Two alternative names were suggested in place of Rushmoor: ''Aldershot and Farnborough'' or ''Farnborough and Aldershot''. In the event, more than 81% of those who voted chose to retain the name, on a turnout of 29%. Rushmoor's population has grown from 1,366 in 1801, through 39,616 in 1901 to over 90,000 in 2001. The 2008 Rushmoor Council election took place on 1 May 2008 to elect members of Rushmoor Borough Council in Hampshire, England. One third of the council was up for election and the Conservative Party stayed in overall control of the council. After the election, the composition of the council was: * Conservative 29 * Liberal Democrat 8 * Labour 5 Campaign Before the election the Conservatives held 26 seats, the Liberal Democrats 7, Labour 6 and a further 3 vacant. 15 seats were up for election with 2 seats in St Johns ward being contested after the death of Conservative councillor Graham Tucker. Farnborough is a town in northeast Hampshire, England, part of the borough of Rushmoor and the Farnborough/Aldershot Built-up Area.
