2010 Mexican League Season
The 2010 Mexican League season was the 86th season in the history of the Mexican League. It was contested by 16 teams, evenly divided in North and South zones. The season started on 16 March with the match between 2009 season champions Saraperos de Saltillo and Acereros de Monclova and ended on 26 August with the last game of the Serie del Rey, where the Saraperos defeated Pericos de Puebla to win their second championship in a row. The Mexican League joined the celebration of the Bicentennial of the Mexican War of Independence and the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution. Both zones were renamed: the North zone to Francisco I. Mexican League
The Mexican League (, ) is a professional baseball league based in Mexico and the oldest running professional league in the country. The league has 18 teams organized in two divisions, North and South. Teams play 114 games each season. Five teams in each division advance to a four-round postseason tournament that culminates in the Serie del Rey, a best-of-seven championship series between the two division champions. The Mexican League has two affiliated minor leagues, the Liga Norte de México and Mexican Academy League. Though founded in 1925, the league joined the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues ( Minor League Baseball) in 1955, when it was designated a Double-A league. Tecolotes De Nuevo Laredo
The Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (''Owls of the Two Laredos''), formerly known as the Tecolotes de Nuevo Laredo (''Owls of Nuevo Laredo''), are a Minor League Baseball team based in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, and Laredo, Texas in the Mexican League. The Tecolotes are a binational baseball team, splitting their home games between Mexico and the United States. Their home games in Mexico are played at Parque la Junta, while their home games in the United States are played at Uni-Trade Stadium. Run (baseball)
In baseball, a run is scored when a player advances around first, second and third base and returns safely to home plate, touching the bases in that order, before three outs are recorded and all obligations to reach base safely on batted balls are met or assured. A player may score by hitting a home run or by any combination of plays that puts him safely "on base" (that is, on first, second, or third) as a runner and subsequently brings him home. Once a player has scored a run, they may not attempt to score another run until their next turn to bat. The object of the game is for a team to score more runs than its opponent. Run Batted In
A run batted in (RBI; plural RBIs ) is a statistic in baseball and softball that credits a batter for making a play that allows a run to be scored (except in certain situations such as when an error is made on the play). For example, if the batter bats a base hit which allows a teammate on a higher base to reach home and so score a run, then the batter gets credited with an RBI. Before the 1920 Major League Baseball season, runs batted in were not an official baseball statistic. Nevertheless, the RBI statistic was tabulated—unofficially—from 1907 through 1919 by baseball writer Ernie Lanigan, according to the Society for American Baseball Research. Víctor Díaz (baseball)
Víctor Israel Díaz (born December 10, 1981) is a Dominican former professional baseball right fielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Mets and Texas Rangers, in the KBO League for the Hanwha Eagles and in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Chunichi Dragons. Career Díaz attended Roberto Clemente High School in Chicago where he was honored as an Illinois All-State baseball player each of his four years there. As a high schooler, he was invited to dinner by fellow Dominican and star Chicago Cubs outfielder Sammy Sosa. He attended Grayson County College where he was a first-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American. He was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 37th round of the 2000 Major League Baseball draft and signed as an infielder. Home Run
In baseball, a home run (abbreviated HR) is scored when the ball is hit in such a way that the batter is able to circle the bases and reach home plate safely in one play without any errors being committed by the defensive team. A home run is usually achieved by hitting the ball over the outfield fence between the foul poles (or hitting either foul pole) without the ball touching the field. Far less common is the "inside-the-park" home run where the batter reaches home safely while the baseball is in play on the field. When a home run is scored, the batter is credited with a hit and a run scored, and a run batted in ( RBI) for each runner that scores, including himself. Willis Otáñez
Willis Alexander Otáñez (born April 19, 1973) is an infielder who played for the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball. He was born in Cotuí, Dominican Republic. Otáñez was originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as an amateur free agent in 1990. He played in the Dodgers farm system through the 1995 season, then was traded along with Miguel Cairo to the Seattle Mariners for Mike Blowers. He lasted just a couple months with Seattle before being placed on waivers and claimed by the Baltimore Orioles. Otáñez made his Major League Baseball debut with the Baltimore Orioles on August 25, 1998. He played the remainder of 1998 and part of {1999 with the Orioles before being claimed on waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays. In 2000, he returned to the Minor Leagues for the Blue Jays. In baseball, batting average (BA) is determined by dividing a player's hits by their total at-bats. It is usually rounded to three decimal places and read without the decimal: A player with a batting average of .300 is "batting three-hundred". If necessary to break ties, batting averages could be taken beyond the .001 measurement. In this context, .001 is considered a "point", such that a .235 batter is 5 points higher than a .230 batter. The Petroleros de Minatitlán (English: Minatitlán Oilers) was a AAA-level baseball team playing in the Mexican League. Olmecas De Tabasco
The Olmecas de Tabasco (English: Tabasco Olmecs) are a professional baseball team in the Mexican League based in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico. Their home ballpark is the Estadio Centenario 27 de Febrero. The Olmecas won their only Mexican League championship in 1993 under manager Juan Navarrete. The Olmecas have long been known for their pitching, especially Emigdio Lopez, Tabasco Cecilio Ruiz, Juan Jesus Alvarez, Jesus "Chito" Rios, Ricardo Osuna, and Gaudencio Aguirre. Piratas De Campeche
The Piratas de Campeche (English: Campeche Pirates) are a professional baseball team in the Mexican League (LMB) based in Campeche, Campeche, Mexico. History In 1980, the Alacranes de Durango moved to Campeche, and played their home games at Venustiano Carranza Park. Their first season was incomplete as the result of a strike carried out by the league's players. It would not take long for the franchise to find success. In 1981, they finished with a 71–50 record, good for second place in the Zona Sur, and beat the Tigres Capitalinos, 4–1, in the first round before falling to the Diablos Rojos del México in seven games.
