2010 Namibian Local And Regional Elections
Namibia held elections for their local and regional councils on 26 and 27 November 2010. The terms of regional councillors and local authority representatives were originally set to expire in 2009. As a local and regional election in 2009 would have meant to organise four different elections in one year, this part of the election was postponed and terms of office extended by one year. 2010 Bahraini Parliamentary Election
General elections were held in Bahrain in October 2010 to elect the forty members of the Council of Representatives. The first round of voting was held on 23 October, with a second round on 30 October. Amidst boycotts and arrests, Al Wefaq won 18 of the 40 seats. Four women were elected. 2010 Azerbaijani Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Azerbaijan on 7 November 2010. Candidates The registration of candidates ended on 15 October. Although 1,115 candidates filed application to run in the election, only 690 were given the go ahead by the electoral commission. Conduct The elections were observed by monitors from the European Parliament, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Council of Europe. OSCE stated that the election campaign had been marred by restrictions on media freedom and freedom of assembly. Many opposition candidates were unable to register themselves, thus creating an "uneven playing field", according to the OSCE. Parliamentary elections were held in Afghanistan on 18 September 2010 to elect members of the House of the People (Wolesi Jirga). 2010 Tanzanian General Election
General elections were held in Tanzania on 31 October 2010. The presidential elections were won by the incumbent President Jakaya Kikwete of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi party (CCM), who received 63% of the vote. The parliamentary elections resulted in a victory for the CCM, which won 186 of the 239 elected seats. In the elections in semi-autonomous Zanzibar, Ali Mohamed Shein of the CCM won the presidential election, whilst the CCM also won the most seats in the House of Representatives. On 1 July 2010, the Somaliland National Election Commission announced that opposition candidate Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud had won the elections, defeating incumbent President Dahir Riyale Kahin. Background The elections were originally scheduled for 31 August 2008, but the instability in the eastern Sanaag and Sool regions led the Guurti to extend the incumbent's term for a year in early April 2008, setting the election for 15 March 2009.
