2010 CARIFTA Games
The 39th CARIFTA Games was held in the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in George Town, Cayman Islands, on April 3–5, 2010. A detailed report on the results was given. Records In total, 13 new games records were set. ;Key: Austin Sealy Award The Austin Sealy Trophy for the most outstanding athlete of the games was awarded to Jehue Gordon of Trinidad and Tobago. He won two gold medals in the 110 m hurdles and the 400 m hurdles competition in the junior (U-20) category setting new games record in both events, and a bronze medal with the 4 × 400 m relay team of Trinidad and Tobago. Shaunae Miller
Shaunae Miller-Uibo (born 15 April 1994) is a Bahamian track and field sprinter who competes in the 200 and 400 metres. She is a two-time Olympic champion after winning the women's 400 metres at the 2016 Rio Olympics and again at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She is the 2022 World champion in the event. At the World Athletics Championships Miller-Uibo won silver medals in the 400 m in 2015 and 2019, and a bronze at the 200 m in 2017 when she also placed fourth at her longer distance. In 2022, she won her first world outdoor and indoor 400 m titles. She holds North American records in the 400 m both outdoors and indoors, set in October 2019 and February 2021 respectively. 800 Metres
The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m. Deon Lendore
Deon Kristofer Lendore (28 October 1992 – 10 January 2022) was a Trinidad and Tobago sprinter who specialised in the 400 metres. He won a bronze medal in the 4 × 400 metres relay event at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and won medals at the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships, World Athletics Championships and World Athletics Indoor Championships. Lendore died in a car collision in Texas, United States, on 10 January 2022. Early life and college career Lendore was born in Mount Hope, Trinidad and Tobago, later moving to Texas where he started competing for Abilene Christian Wildcats. He attended Queen's Royal College, and later Texas A&M University, where he competed in the school's track and field team from 2012–2014. The 400 metres, or 400-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field competitions. It has been featured in the athletics (sport), athletics programme at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1964 for women. On a standard outdoor running track, it is one lap around the track. Runners start in staggered positions and race in separate lanes for the entire course. 200 Metres
The 200 metres, or 200-meter dash, is a sprint running event. On an outdoor 400 metre racetrack, the race begins on the curve and ends on the home straight, so a combination of techniques is needed to successfully run the race. A slightly shorter race, called the '' stadion'' and run on a straight track, was the first recorded event at the ancient Olympic Games. The 200 m places more emphasis on speed endurance than shorter sprint distances as athletes predominantly rely on anaerobic energy system during the 200 m sprint. Similarly to other sprint distances, the 200 m begins from the starting blocks. When the sprinters adopt the 'set' position in the blocks they are able to adopt a more efficient starting posture and isometrically preload their muscles. Jason Aliston Rogers (born 31 August 1991 in Sandy Point) is a Saint Kitts and Nevis sprinter who specialises in the 100 metres. Rogers helped win a bronze medal as a part of the 4 × 100 m relay at the 2008 Central American and Caribbean Championships in Cali, Colombia. He also finished sixth in the 100 metres final of the 2010 World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada. He has competed in three Olympic Games for his country (2012, 2016 and 2020).
