The 2010 Asian Men's Junior Handball Championship (12th tournament) took place in Tehran from July 23 – August 1. It acts as the Asian qualifying tournament for the 2011 Men's Junior World Handball Championship. The 2011 Men's Junior World Handball Championship was the 18th edition of the tournament and was held at Thessaloniki, Greece from July 17–31, 2011. Oceania withdrew their participation at this year's tournament, Norway replaced the Oceanian team. Uruguay withdrew from this year's edition, Venezuela replaced them as the first substitute of the Pan-American continent. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a Handball goalkeeper, goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it.
