2010 Apulian Regional Election
The Apulian regional election of 2010 took place in Apulia, Italy, on 28–29 March 2010. The outgoing President Nichi Vendola (SEL) was elected for a second-consecutive term, after having won a primary election in which he beat a Democrat and having benefited from the split of the centre-right, whose two candidates jointly won 51.0% of the vote. Vendola's party, SEL, had a strong showing in the Region by coming third with 9.7% of the vote, after The People of Freedom (31.1%) and the Democratic Party (20.8%). Background The incumbent left-wing president Nichi Vendola, who in 2005 surprisingly defeated a centrist in the centre-left primary election and then the outgoing President Raffaele Fitto, was under attack by his own coalition. Vendola, a gay communist President in a fairly conservative region, would have found hard to get re-election in a time when the centre-right led by Silvio Berlusconi was ahead of the centre-left both in Apulia and the whole country. Regional Council Of Apulia
The Regional Council of Apulia (''Consiglio Regionale della Puglia'') is the legislative assembly of Apulia. It was first elected in 1970, when the ordinary regions were instituted, on the basis of the Constitution of Italy of 1948. Composition The Regional Council of Apulia was originally composed of 50 regional councillors. The number of regional councillors increased to 60 in 2000 and subsequently to 70 in 2005, following a modification of the regional Statute in 2004. In the 2005 regional election the number of councillors further raised to 78, following a further allocation of 8 regional councillors to the center-left winning coalition. Following the decree-law n. 138 of 13 August 2011 the number of regional councillors returned to 50, with an additional seat reserved for the President of the Region. Bari ( , ; nap, label= Barese, Bare ; lat, Barium) is the capital city of the Metropolitan City of Bari and of the Apulia region, on the Adriatic Sea, southern Italy. It is the second most important economic centre of mainland Southern Italy after Naples. It is a port and university city, as well as the city of Saint Nicholas. Apulia First of All (''La Puglia Prima di Tutto'', PPT) is a regionalist-centrist political party in Italy active in Apulia, as local branch of Forza Italia. The party was launched in 2005 as a civic list in support of Raffaele Fitto, the outgoing President of the Region of Forza Italia. In the 2005 regional election PPT gained 9.2% of the vote and 5 seats in the Regional Council, while Fitto was defeated by Nichi Vendola. The party has since organized on a stable basis and gained some autonomy from Fitto, although it can be considered a sort of sister-party of The People of Freedom, the party in which Fitto and Forza Italia merged in 2009. Bonino-Pannella List
Bonino-Pannella List (''Lista Bonino-Pannella'') was a liberal and libertarian electoral list formed by the Italian Radicals. Named after Marco Pannella and Emma Bonino, the list was the continuation of Pannella List (1992–1999) and Bonino List (1999–2009) and its candidates were mainly members of the Italian Radicals. In the 2009 European Parliament election the list gained 2.4% and no seats in the election, despite being particularly strong in urban areas, such as Milan (5.5%), Bologna (5.1%), Florence (5.0%), Padua (5.0%) and Turin (4.9%).
