2009–10 St. Louis Blues Season
The 2009–10 St. Louis Blues season was the team's 43rd season in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Blues fired Andy Murray as head coach on January 2, 2010, after a below expectation record (17–17–6, 40 points), sitting in 12th place in the Western Conference. Especially galling were the frequent blown leads after two periods, and with the poorest home record (6–13–3, including one win in Sweden) in the NHL. Davis Payne was named the Blues' interim head coach, the 23rd head coach in the Blues' history. Payne was previously head coach of the Blues' top minor league affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League (AHL). Western Conference (NHL)
The Western Conference () is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974–75 NHL season, 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. 2004–05 NHL Lockout
The 2004–05 NHL lockout was a labor lockout that resulted in the cancellation of the National Hockey League (NHL) season, which would have been its 88th season of play. The main dispute was the league's desire to implement a salary cap to limit expenditure on player salaries, which was opposed by the NHL Players Association (NHLPA), the players' labor union, who proposed an alternative system of revenue sharing. Attempts at collective bargaining before the season began were unsuccessful. The lockout was initiated on September 16, 2004, one day after the expiration of the existing collective bargaining agreement (CBA), which itself had been the result of the 1994–95 lockout. Saab Arena, formerly named Cloetta Center between 2004 and 2014, is an arena in Linköping, Sweden. It opened in September 2004 and holds 8,500 people during sport events and 11,500 during concerts.
