2009–10 Pittsburgh Panthers Women's Basketball Team
The 2009–10 Pittsburgh Panthers women's basketball team will represent the University of Pittsburgh in the 2009–10 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Panthers will be coached by Agnus Berenato. The Panthers are a member of the Big East Conference and play their home games at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Previous season The 2008-09 Pitt women's basketball went 25–8, a program record number of wins, en route to Pitt's second consecutive NCAA Sweet 16 appearance and a final #15 national ranking in both the AP and Coaches' polls. Point guard junior Jania Sims was injured during the first game of the season and redshirted. Agnus Berenato
Agnus Berenato (born Agnus McGlade on December 9, 1956), is a former basketball coach. She was the head women's basketball coach at Rider from 1982 to 1985, Georgia Tech from 1989 to 2003, Pittsburgh from 2003 to 2013, and Kennesaw State from 2016 to 2021. She is the all-time wins leader among women's basketball head coaches at the University of Pittsburgh. Early life and education Berenato is the eighth of ten children born to Peter and Theresa McGlade. Raised in Gloucester City, New Jersey, she attended Gloucester Catholic High School, where she played on three state championship teams. Beeghly Center
The Beeghly Physical Education Center, or simply Beeghly Center, is a 6,300-seat multi-purpose arena in Youngstown, Ohio. The arena, built at a cost of $5.5 million and named for local businessman Leon A. Beeghly, opened on December 2, 1972. It is home to the Youngstown State University Penguins basketball, volleyball, and swimming teams. The first event at the arena was a basketball game against the Ohio University Bobcats, which ended in a 68-59 Youngstown State victory.
