2009–10 Moldovan National Division
The 2009–10 Moldovan National Division ( ro, Divizia Națională) was the 19th season of top-tier football in Moldova. The season began on 5 July 2008, with the final round of matches played on 16 May 2009. Sheriff Tiraspol retained their title as defending champions. Team changes On 6 June 2009, Tiligul-Tiras Tiraspol announced that the club would dissolve, citing a lack of funds as the reason. As a consequence, Academia Chișinău were spared from relegation. The 2008–09 season had already been absolved with only eleven teams after FC Politehnica Chișinău withdrew their participation just days before the scheduled start. The two vacant league spots were filled with 2008–09 Moldovan "A" Division champions Viitorul Orhei and 11th-placed Sfîntul Gheorghe, who bought their way into the top level. Moldovan National Division
The Moldovan Super Liga is an association football league that is currently the top division of Moldovan football league system. The competition was established in 1992, when the country became independent from the Soviet Union. It was formed in place of former Soviet republican competitions that existed since 1945. Before the Soviet occupation of Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina in 1940, clubs from modern Moldova competed in the Romanian football competitions, particularly Nistru Chișinău. There are currently eight teams in the competition. At the end of the season, the bottom club is relegated to the Moldovan Liga 1 and replaced by the lower league's champion. Sheriff Tiraspol—located in Transnistria—is the most successful league club with 20 titles, and is followed by Zimbru Chișinău with eight wins. SC Tiligul-Tiras Tiraspol was a Moldovan football club based in Tiraspol. They played in the Divizia Naţională, the top division in Moldovan football. Their home stadium was Stadionul Municipal. Currently the club's football academy is associated with another Moldovan club FC Zaria Bălți and competes in football competitions as its reserve team in lower Moldovan leagues. Bender (, Moldovan Cyrillic: Бендер) or Bendery (russian: Бендеры, , uk, Бендери), also known as Tighina ( ro, Tighina), is a city within the internationally recognized borders of Moldova under ''de facto'' control of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Transnistria) (PMR) since 1992. It is located on the western bank of the river Dniester in the Romanian historical region of Bessarabia. Together with its suburb Proteagailovca, the city forms a municipality, which is separate from Transnistria (as an administrative unit of Moldova) according to Moldovan law. Bender is located in the buffer zone established at the end of the 1992 War of Transnistria. Academia Chișinău was a Moldovan football club from Chișinău. They played in the Divizia Națională, the top division in Moldovan football. History Academia came into existence in 2006 when Igor Dobrovolski, Alexandru Cojuhari, and Eduard Rotari decided to create a club with which to facilitate the growth of football talent in Moldova. FC Tiraspol was a Moldovan football (soccer), football club based in Tiraspol, Moldova. They played in the Moldovan National Division, Divizia Naţională, the top division in Moldovan football.
