2009–10 MJHL Season
The 2009–10 season was the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's (MJHL) 93rd season of operation. The Dauphin Kings were the best team in both the regular season and playoffs. The Kings hosted the 2010 Royal Bank Cup in Dauphin and advanced to the national championship game, but lost to the Vernon Vipers. Manitoba Junior Hockey League
The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) is a Junior 'A' ice hockey league operating in the Canadian province of Manitoba and one of nine member leagues of the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). The MJHL consists of thirteen teams all based within the province of Manitoba, eight of which qualify for each year's playoffs. The playoff champion is awarded the Turnbull Cup, the Junior 'A' championship trophy for the province of Manitoba. The winner of the MJHL playoffs (Turnbull Cup) competes against the champion from Saskatchewan for the ANAVET Cup and a berth in the Centennial Cup (formerly known as the Royal Bank Cup). Portage Terriers
The Portage Terriers are a Canadian junior "A" ice hockey team from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. They are members of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, a part of the Canadian Junior Hockey League. History The Portage Terriers were founded in 1932. Ten years later the Terriers won the Turnbull Cup as Manitoba junior champions and went on to defeat the Oshawa Generals to win the Memorial Cup. Their roster included Joe Bell, Gordon Bell, Billy Gooden, Lin Bend, Jack MacDonald, Wally Stefaniw, Bobby Love, Oliver "Bud" Ritchie, Bill Heindl Sr., Jack O'Reilly, Joe Ledoux, Lloyd Smith and Don Campbell. A shortage of players following World War II forced the Terriers to cease operations in 1947. Mike Ridley Trophy
The Mike Ridley Trophy is awarded to the player who leads the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in points scoring during the regular season. The trophy is named after former National Hockey League star Mike Ridley, who holds the MJHL single season scoring records for points (191) and goals (91), which were set with the St. Boniface Saints during the 1982–83 season. The current trophy was first awarded in 2003, replacing the Selkirk Steelers Trophy previous awarded to the scoring champion. Muzz McPherson Award
The Muzz MacPherson Award is a trophy that is presented to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League coach judged to have contributed the most to his team’s success. The trophy is named after former coach Murray MacPherson, who led the Portage Terriers to the 1973 Centennial Cup national championship. Lorne Lyndon Memorial Trophy
The Frank McKinnon Memorial Trophy is an annual award given by the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability during the regular season. The trophy is named after the late former MJHL commissioner and Hockey Canada executive. History The first trophy awarded by the MJHL for sportsmanship was the Cadet Trophy. It was succeeded by the Lorne Lyndon Memorial Trophy in 1966, named in honour of one of Canada's most renowned officials who officiated from 1933 to 1953, including six Allan Cup finals, three Memorial Cup finals, and the 1951 Alexander Cup. The Lyndon Trophy was retired in favour of the current trophy, which awarded for the first time during the 2017–18 season. Vince Leah Trophy
The Kim Davis Trophy is an annual award given to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League during the regular season. The trophy is named after former MJHL commissioner Kim Davis. History The Rookie of the Year award was created in 1950. From 1967 to 1977, the award winner was presented the Gordon Petrie Memorial Trophy and from 1978 to 2022 was named the Vince Leah Trophy. Vince Leah was a sportswriter for ''The Winnipeg Tribune'' and the ''Winnipeg Free Press'', founded the Excelsior Hockey Club in 1934, which produced forty future professional hockey players and won thirteen provincial championships. The Steve "Boomer" Hawrysh Award is an ice hockey trophy that is presented annually to the Most Valuable Player of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) during the regular season. Steve “Boomer” Hawrysh reached a milestone in 1992 with 60 consecutive years in total hockey involvement in Dauphin. As a player, Hawrysh was on three Manitoba championship winners with the Dauphin intermediates. He began coaching in 1952 in Dauphin, Manitoba. La Ronge Ice Wolves
The La Ronge Ice Wolves are a Canadian junior "A" ice hockey team based out of La Ronge, Saskatchewan. They play out of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and play their homes games at the Mel Hegland Uniplex which has a seating capacity of 1,200. History Despite finishing fourth in their division and seventh overall in the league, the La Ronge Ice Wolves defeated the Humboldt Broncos, Flin Flon Bombers, Battlefords North Stars, and Yorkton Terriers to clinch their first SJHL Credit Union Cup. Ice Wolves' forward Liam Brennan was named playoff MVP after scoring a hat-trick overtime goal winning the series. With the win, the Ice Wolves advanced to the ANAVET Cup, but had already guaranteed themselves a position in the 2010 Royal Bank Cup as their opponent, the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, were hosting the National Championship.
