2009–10 Hannover 96 Season
The 2009–10 Hannover 96 season was the 114th season in the football club's history and 21st overall and eighth consecutive season in the top flight of German football, the Bundesliga, having been promoted from the 2. Bundesliga in 2002. Hannover 96 also participated in this season's edition of the domestic cup, the DFB-Pokal. This was the 51st season for Hannover in the HDI-Arena, located in Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany. The season covered a period from 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2010. The season was overshadowed by the suicide of the team's captain and goalkeeper Robert Enke on 10 November 2009. Hannoverscher Sportverein von 1896, commonly referred to as Hannover 96 (), Hannover, HSV or simply 96, is a German professional football club based in the city of Hanover, Lower Saxony. They played in the Bundesliga for a total of 30 years between 1964 and 2019 and currently play in the 2. Bundesliga, the second tier in the German football league system, having been relegated from the Bundesliga, Germany's first tier, after finishing 17th in the 2018–19 season. Steve Cherundolo
Steven Emil Cherundolo (born February 19, 1979) is an American soccer coach and former player who serves as head coach of Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC. A right-back, he was the captain of Hannover 96 of the German Bundesliga, where he spent his entire club career. He represented the United States at the 2006, 2010, and 2014 FIFA World Cups. Early life Born in Rockford, Illinois, Cherundolo grew up in San Diego, California, and attended Mt. Carmel High School in Rancho Peñasquitos. Mario Eggimann (born 24 January 1981) is a Swiss former footballer who played as a defender. He also earned caps for the Swiss national team. Club career Born in Brugg, Switzerland, Eggimann began his career with local side FC Küttigen before moving to bigger local rivals FC Aarau where he began his professional career making his professional debut in 1998. Ján Ďurica (born 10 December 1981) is a Slovak former professional footballer who played as a central defender. He worked as assistant manager of FC Petržalka. Club career Ďurica moved to FC Saturn Moscow Oblast after a highly successful UEFA Champions League campaign with FC Artmedia Bratislava. Leon Hougaard Andreasen (born 23 April 1983) is a Danish former professional footballer who played as a defender or midfielder. He won 20 caps and scored three goals for the Denmark national team. Vinícius Bergantin (born 31 July 1980) is a Brazilian professional football coach and former player who played as a central defender. Playing career Vinícius was born in Salto. Robert Enke
Robert Enke (24 August 1977 – 10 November 2009) was a German professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He played for Mönchengladbach, Benfica, and Barcelona, but made the majority of his appearances for Bundesliga side Hannover 96 in his homeland. He won eight full international caps for the German national team between the 1999 Confederations Cup and his death in 2009, and was part of the squad which finished as runners-up in Euro 2008.
