2009–10 Azerbaijan Premier League
The 2009–10 Azerbaijan Premier League was the eighteenth season of top-tier football in Azerbaijan. It began on 14 August 2009 and finished in May 2010. FK Baku were the defending champions. The league was competed in two stages. The first stage consisted of a regular home-and-away round-robin schedule for a total of 22 matches per team. The competition then split into two halves. However, each team took over to the respective group only records earned against the remaining 5 teams in their second round group. The teams ranked first through sixth played out the championship and the European spots while the bottom six teams had to avoid one of the two relegation places. Teams MOIK Baku and Bakili Baku were relegated after finishing the 2008–09 season in the bottom two places. Azerbaijan Premier League
The Azerbaijan Premier League ( az, Azərbaycan Premyer Liqası) is a professional league for men's association football clubs. At the top of the Azerbaijan football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. It is contested by 10 clubs. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 36 matches each (playing each team in the league four times, twice at home and twice away). The Premier League champion secures the right to play in UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. The runner up and the 3rd place winner secure right to play in UEFA Europa Conference League starting in second qualifying round. Since 1992, a total of 8 clubs have been crowned champions of the Azerbaijani football system. The Azerbaijan Premier League was first organized in 2007 and succeeded the Top Division ( az, Yüksək Liqa), which existed from 1992 to 2007. MOIK Baku
MOIK Baku is an Azerbaijani football club, based in Baku. MOIK was originally built around the same concept of military sports club as CSKA Moscow, CSKA Sofia. History The club was established under name OIK ( az, Ordu İdman Klubu; en, Sports Club of Army) in 1961 as sport society of Azerbaijani Armed Forces and was funded by USSR Ministry of Defense until 1990 and Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense since 1993. It has never participated at any Soviet football league, just one time has entered Soviet Cup and has been eliminated in preliminary round, but 4 times has won Azerbaijan USSR League and 8 times Azerbaijan USSR Cup. MOIK began to participate at Azerbaijan First Division in 1993, making its Azerbaijan Premier League debut in 1995. The club has won Azerbaijan First Division two times. Shafa Stadium
ASK Arena ( az, ASK Arena), formerly Inter Arena and Shafa Stadium is an all-seater football stadium located in Baku . The stadium was built on the site of Termist stadium in 2001 and has a capacity of 8,125 spectators. The stadium surrounded by practice fields, administration buildings and four-star hotel. Background ASK Arena was built by AFFA in 2001. The first match played was a 2001–02 UEFA Cup first qualifying round between Shafa Baku and Olimija Ljubljana where the match ended 0–4. The first goal scored by Dušan Kosič. The stadium was one of the venues for the group stages of the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. A Group A match were played there. Tofig Bakhramov Stadium
The Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium ( az, Tofiq Bəhramov adına Respublika Stadionu) is a multi-purpose stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan. It is currently used mostly for association football, football matches. It served as the home ground for the Azerbaijan national football team until they moved to the Baku Olympic Stadium. It holds 31,200 seats making it the second largest stadium in the country. The stadium is also used by the Azerbaijan Premier League clubs in the final rounds of European competitions. History The Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium was built in 1951 in football (soccer), 1951. Its construction started before World War II in 1939, but was suspended.
