2009 World Youth Championships In Athletics
The 2009 World Youth Championships in Athletics is the sixth edition of the IAAF World Youth Championships in Athletics. They were held at Brixen-Bressanone Sport Arena in Bressanone, Italy from 8–12 July 2009. Athletes had to be aged 16 or 17 on 31 December 2009 (born in 1992 or 1993) to compete. 15-year-old Jodie Williams took the 100 m sprint title in a youth world leading time of 11.39. This was also a personal best for Williams, who had not lost a 100 m final since 2007. Also winning the girls' 200 m, Williams became the first youth athlete ever to do so. A similar feat was achieved by Kirani James of Grenada, who won the boys' 200 and 400 metres. In winning the long jump, Supanara Sukhasvasti became Thailand's first finalist, medallist and champion in an athletics global event of any age category. He is a descendant of King Rama IV. Brixen
Brixen (, ; it, Bressanone ; lld, Porsenù or ) is a town in South Tyrol, northern Italy, located about north of Bolzano. Joshua Mance
Ronell Joshua "Josh" Mance (born March 21, 1992) is an American sprinter who specialises in the 400 metres. He attends Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, where he has transferred after two years at the University of Southern California. On June 24, 2012, he finished 4th in the 400 meters at the 2012 United States Olympic Trials, a result that won him a position on the United States Olympic team as a member of the 4x400 relay. At the Olympics, Mance was part of the precarious American silver medal winning team. In the semi-finals, Mance took the baton from Manteo Mitchell after Mitchell completed half a lap with what turned out to be a broken leg. 400 Metres
The 400 metres, or 400-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field competitions. It has been featured in the athletics (sport), athletics programme at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1964 for women. On a standard outdoor running track, it is one lap around the track. Runners start in staggered positions and race in separate lanes for the entire course. Keenan Brock
Keenan Brock (born January 6, 1992) is an American sprinter who specializes in the 100 and 200 metres. Brock ran for George Washington Carver High School in Birmingham, Alabama, where he won the Alabama State Championships twice at 100 and 200 and once in the triple jump. His time in the 100 his senior year was the state record 10.37. Between his junior and senior years, he won an individual bronze medal in the 200 metres and was on the winning American team in the Medley Relay at the 2009 World Youth Championships in Athletics in Brixen. Next he went to the University of Auburn. 200 Metres
The 200 metres, or 200-meter dash, is a sprint running event. On an outdoor 400 metre racetrack, the race begins on the curve and ends on the home straight, so a combination of techniques is needed to successfully run the race. A slightly shorter race, called the '' stadion'' and run on a straight track, was the first recorded event at the ancient Olympic Games. The 200 m places more emphasis on speed endurance than shorter sprint distances as athletes predominantly rely on anaerobic energy system during the 200 m sprint. Similarly to other sprint distances, the 200 m begins from the starting blocks. When the sprinters adopt the 'set' position in the blocks they are able to adopt a more efficient starting posture and isometrically preload their muscles. Aaron Brown (track Athlete)
Aaron Brown (born 27 May 1992) is a Canadian sprinter who specializes in the 100 and 200 metres. As part of Canada's 4×100 m relay team, he is a two-time Olympic medallist at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics, and the 2022 World champion. Brown has also won two World bronze medals as part of Canada's 4×100 m relay teams in 2013 and 2015. As an individual, Brown is the 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medalist in the 200 m and won several junior championship medals early in his career. Prezel Hardy Jr. (born June 1, 1992) is an American sprinter who specializes in the 100 meters. At the 2009 World Youth Championships in Athletics in Brixen, Italy, Hardy won the 100 meters in 10.57 in the midst of heavy rain. Hardy attends Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. At the 2009 Texas State high school meet he won the State 5A title in the 100 meters in 10.08 seconds, which would have bettered the World youth record of 10.23 set by Tamunosiki Atorudibo in 2002 and tied by Rynell Parson in 2007 had it not been for the wind assistance of 2.2 meters per second. However, his time made him the third fastest performer in high school history, behind only Jeffery Demps (10.01) and J-Mee Samuels (10.05w), and a new Texas state record, beating the previous record set by Henry Neal of Greenville with a time of 10.15 seconds in 1990. The shortest common outdoor running distance, the dash is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics.
