The 2009 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach was the second round of the 2009 IndyCar Series season, held on April 19, 2009. The race was contested over 85 laps of the street course in Long Beach, California. Dario Franchitti recorded his first win since his 2007 championship win, after benefitting from an early full-course caution, having made a pitstop the lap before. As a result of Champ Car World Series merged to IRL IndyCar Series, the IRL inherited Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach event status for the first time. The Grand Prix of Long Beach (known as Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach since 2019 for naming rights reasons) is an IndyCar Series race held on a street circuit in downtown Long Beach, California. Christopher Pook is the founder of the event. It was the premier race on the CART/Champ Car World Series calendar from 1996 to 2008, and the 2008 race was the final Champ Car series race prior to the formal unification and end of the open-wheel "split" between CART and IRL. Scott Ronald Dixon (born 22 July 1980) is a professional racing driver from New Zealand, who competes in the NTT IndyCar Series for Chip Ganassi Racing. Vision Racing was a racing team in the Indy Racing League founded in 2005 when Tony George purchased the assets of the defunct Kelley Racing and hired his stepson Ed Carpenter to be the driver.
