The 2009 Tour du Haut Var was the 41st edition of the Tour du Haut Var cycle race and was held on 21–22 February 2009. The race started in Saint-Raphaël and finished in Callian. The race was won by Thomas Voeckler. Thomas Voeckler
Thomas Voeckler (; born 22 June 1979) is a French former road racing cyclist, who competed professionally between 2001 and 2017, for the team and its previous iterations. One of the most prominent French riders of his generation, Voeckler has been described as a "national hero", due to strong performances over several years in the Tour de France. Early life Born in Schiltigheim, Bas-Rhin, Voeckler has been a professional cyclist since 2001. He comes from the Alsace region of France but later moved to Martinique, where he was nicknamed ''"Ti-Blanc"'' (a contraction of ''petit blanc'', the literal translation of which is "little white") due to his small stature and pale complexion. David Moncoutié (born 30 April 1975) is a retired French professional road racing cyclist, who rode with the French team , for his entire professional career. He was a climber, and won his first professional race in a mountain stage of Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré. Jussi Veikkanen (born 29 March 1981) is a Finnish former road racing cyclist, who rode as a professional between 2005 and 2015 for the and teams. He won the Finnish National Road Race Championships seven times between 2003 and 2014. Career Born in Riihimäki, Veikkanen started his career with team Mälarenergi and he became a professional cyclist in 2005 with . After a long breakaway on stage 2 of the 2009 Tour de France he donned the polka-dot jersey as the leader of the mountains classification. The Tour du Haut Var ( en, Tour of the Haut Var) is an early-season two-day road bicycle race in the Var department region in the south of France. Until 2008 it was run as a one-day race, part of the UCI Europe Tour. In 2009, the race transformed to a 2.1 event, raced over two days. Dutchman Joop Zoetemelk and France's Arthur Vichot hold the record with three wins. The Tour du Haut Var is one of several stage races held in the hilly Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in February, alongside the Étoile de Bessèges, La Méditerranéenne and the Tour La Provence. Saint-Raphaël, Var
Saint-Raphaël (; oc, Sant Rafèu ) is a commune in the Var department, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, Southeastern France. In 2017, it had a population of 35,042. Immediately to the west of Saint-Raphaël lies a larger and older town, Fréjus; together they form an urban agglomeration known as Var Estérel Méditerranée, which also encompasses the smaller communes of Les Adrets-de-l'Estérel, Puget-sur-Argens and Roquebrune-sur-Argens. Career Born in Pau, Ladagnous became junior world champion at the madison in Melbourne, Australia in 2002 with his partner Tom Thiblier.
