The 2009 Tour de San Luis was a men's road cycling race held from 19 to January 25, 2009, in Argentina. Tom Zirbel
Tom Zirbel (born October 30, 1978) is an American former road bicycle racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2006 and 2016 for the , and teams. Career Born in Clear Lake, Iowa, Zirbel rode for from 2006 to 2009. He came fourth in the UCI Road World Championships time trial in September 2009, and had signed to join UCI ProTour team the following season. In December 2009, a urine test taken at the United States National Time Trial Championships the previous August, in which Zirbel came second, tested positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). Zirbel denied having taken the substance knowingly, but he nevertheless voluntarily accepted a two-year suspension, and immediately announced his retirement. His suspension was reduced in March 2011 to 18 months, which had already been served, in recognition of assistance given to the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). Ivan Basso (born 26 November 1977) is an Italian former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 1999 and 2015 for seven different teams. Basso, nicknamed Ivan the Terrible, was considered among the best mountain riders in the professional field in the early 21st century, and was considered one of the strongest stage race riders. He is a double winner of the Giro d'Italia, having won the race in 2006 for and 2010 for . In 2007 Basso admitted he was planning to use blood doping and was suspended for two years. His suspension ended on 24 October 2008, and he returned to racing two days later in the Japan Cup, where he placed a close third behind Damiano Cunego and Giovanni Visconti. Andriy Askoldovich Hrivko ( uk, Андрій Аскольдович Грівко, also transliterated Hryvko or Grivko, born 7 August 1983) is a Ukrainian former racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2005 and 2018. Since retiring from racing, Hrivko currently serves as the president of the Ukrainian Cycling Federation. Career Born in Zuya, Bilohirsk Raion, Hrivko competed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the road race, in which he did not finish, and the individual time trial, where he finished 31st. Potrero De Los Funes
The Lago Potrero de los Funes circuit is an Argentine motorsports race track originally constructed in 1987, and rebuilt in 2008. It is located from San Luis, capital city of the San Luis Province, Argentina. The circuit is semi-permanent, with a length of . It was created by modifying the ring road that encircles Lake Potrero de los Funes, at the course's center. The circuit has received very high praise from the drivers for its substantial undulations and numerous high speed corners and bends, which provide a great driving challenge. The track's layout has changed slightly from its original layout. It appears that the curve prior to where the pits are now was tightened to create a more pronounced corner ahead of the pits, and perhaps to reduce speeds on the racing line going past the new pit exit. Xavier Tondó
Xavier Tondo Volpini (5 November 1978 in Valls, Spain – 23 May 2011 in Monachil, Spain) was a Spanish professional road racing cyclist who specialized in mountain stages of bicycle races. Death Tondo was killed after being apparently trapped between his own garage door and car, and crushed by the door, while preparing his bicycle for a training ride. Teammate Beñat Intxausti was with him at the time of the accident. To commemorate Xavier Tondo the 100%Tondo sportive is held yearly, starting in Sant Joan les Fonts and finishing in Vallter 2000.
