2009 Toulouse Olympique Season
2009 was the first year of participation to the Championship for the Toulouse Olympique rugby league club. Toulouse was allowed special dispensation to field five overseas players in their first season. The new Toulouse team was composed of 9 full-time players, 13 part-time players and 10 members of the Toulouse academy. With a largely renewed team and a lack of preseason (only friendly with the Dragons cancelled due to the weather), the TO started its season with a series of defeat. Its first match in the Championship proved to be too much of a challenge with a hammering 70-0 at Widnes in front of Sky cameras. However, after the victory away against Batley, the TO accumulated victories and looked on track for a top 4 spot. The match against Featherstone at home in June however marked another turning point in the season. Carlos Zalduendo
Carlos Zalduendo (French: ''Charles Zalduendo'') (born in Peralta, 17 August 1952) is a French former rugby league footballer and the chairman of the Toulouse Olympique club. Between 2012 and 2016, he was president of the French Rugby League Federation. He is also a former police inspector (later police officer, after the 1995 reform which made obsolete the dichotomy between plainclothes and uniformed agents). Biography He was the youngest of a family with five sons. He arrived in France at the age of 5 years. His father was a bricklayer who settled in Artix, near Pau, while his mother settled in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. During his childhood, he dominated three languages, Spanish, Basque and French. Widnes Vikings
The Widnes Vikings are an English rugby league club in Widnes, Cheshire, which competes in the Betfred Championship. The club plays home matches at the Halton Stadium. Founded as Widnes Football Club, they are one of the original twenty-two rugby clubs that formed the Northern Rugby Football Union in 1895. The Leigh Leopards are a professional rugby league club based in Leigh, Greater Manchester, England, who compete in the Betfred Super League. Mount Pleasant, Batley
Mount Pleasant stadium, officially known for commercial sponsorship purposes as Fox's Biscuits Stadium, is a rugby league stadium in Batley, West Yorkshire, England. It is the home of the Batley Bulldogs. The Mount Pleasant pitch is sloped and is on a hill overlooking Batley. The end of the ground at the top of the hill has three grandstands. Behind the rugby posts is a terraced stand, which houses the players changing rooms and executive boxes. At the opposite end at the bottom of the hill is an open terraced stand. Recreation Ground (Whitehaven)
The Recreation Ground (known locally as the 'Recre') and for sponsorship reasons the LEL Arena is a rugby league stadium in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England. It is the home of Whitehaven R.L.F.C.
