2009 Sacramento Monarchs Season
The 2009 WNBA season was the 13th season and final season for the Sacramento Monarchs of the Women's National Basketball Association. The Monarchs failed to qualify for the WNBA Playoffs for the first time in seven years. The Monarchs would later discontinue operations just 2 months after the 2009 season ended, making them the last defunct WNBA team to date. Jenny Boucek
Jennifer Dawn Boucek (born December 20, 1973) is an assistant basketball coach for the Indiana Pacers, a former basketball player, and former head coach of the Seattle Storm. She was hired by the Storm on January 20, 2015, but terminated on August 10, 2017 as the team failed to meet the expectations that came along with the acquisition of consecutive top draft picks Jewell Loyd and Breanna Stewart. Boucek was previously the head coach for the Sacramento Monarchs from November 15, 2006 until July 12, 2009. Morgan Warburton
Morgan Warburton (born April 27, 1987) is an American professional basketball player. She was drafted by the Sacramento Monarchs in the 2009 WNBA draft. She was waived on June 4, 2009. Playing career High school At Carbon High School, she earned all-state and all-region honors in basketball, volleyball and softball. She led her school to the state basketball championship in 2005 and paced the team in scoring for three seasons. Honors included being named Class 3A MVP in 2005. Utah Utes As a Sophomore, she started all 33 games and averaged 33 minutes per game, while playing in double-digit minutes each outing. Adrian Williams-Strong
Adrian Williams-Strong (born February 15, 1977) is a former American professional women's basketball player who played in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Williams attended college at University of Southern California and graduated in 1999. Following her collegiate career, she was selected as the 21st overall pick in the 2000 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury and played in the 2003 WNBA All-Star Game. In July 2004, Williams was dealt to the San Antonio Silver Stars. After spending the 2005 season in Korea, Williams signed with the Minnesota Lynx in 2006. She averaged 4.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 15.2 minutes per game in her return to the WNBA. Crystal Kelly
Crystal Kelly (born September 15, 1986) is a professional basketball player who played in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). High school Kelly played for Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, Kentucky, where she was named a WBCA All-American. In addition, Kelly was named the 2004 Kentucky Miss Basketball. She participated in the 2004 WBCA High School All-America Game where she scored four points. College Kelly attended college at Western Kentucky University, where she was a standout basketball player. She broke the WKU women's basketball program record for career rebounds, and earned a place in the top 25 career scorers in NCAA Division I women's basketball history by scoring over 2,600 points. Detroit Shock
The Detroit Shock were a Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) team based in Auburn Hills, Michigan. They were the 2003, 2006, and 2008 WNBA champions. Debuting in 1998, the Shock were one of the league's first expansion franchises. They were also the first WNBA expansion franchise to win a WNBA Championship. The team was the sister team of the Detroit Pistons and from 2002 to the 2009 season was coached by Pistons legend Bill Laimbeer. On October 20, 2009, it was announced that the Shock would be moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma to play in the new downtown arena, the BOK Center. Kristin Haynie
Kristin Lynne Haynie (born June 17, 1983) is an American former basketball player in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and current assistant coach for the Minnesota Lynx. Early life Haynie was raised in Mason, Michigan. In high school, she played on the varsity team since her freshman year, and graduated from Mason High School in 2001. Career Haynie was the starting point guard for the Michigan State University Spartans all four years. She was instrumental in their 2005 Big Ten Championship and first ever trip to the Final 4. Chelsea Newton
Chelsea Newton (born February 17, 1983) is an American women's college basketball coach, currently the associate head coach at Texas A&M. Newton served as an assistant coach at Rutgers University from 2010 to 2015 and at Georgia from 2015 to 2022. Kim Smith Gaucher (born May 7, 1984), née Kim Smith, is a Canadian professional women's basketball player, currently with the USO Mondeville in the championnat de France de basket-ball de Ligue féminine 2 (LF2). A'Quonesia Krashun Franklin (born September 29, 1985), also known as Aqua, is an American basketball coach and former player. She played two seasons in the WNBA. She was a three-year captain of the Texas A&M team from the 2005–06 to 2007–08 seasons.
