The 8th Southeast Asia Basketball Association Championship was held in Medan, Indonesia from 6–9 July 2009. 2007 SEABA Championship
The 2007 FIBA Asia Championship qualification was held in early 2007 with the Gulf region, West Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia and Middle Asia (Central Asia and South Asia) each conducting tournaments. Qualification format The following are eligible to participate: * The organizing country. * The champion team from the previous FIBA Asia Stanković Cup. * The four best-placed teams from the previous FIBA Asia Stanković Cup will qualify the same number of teams from their respective sub-zones. * The two best teams from the sub-zones. The 9th Southeast Asia Basketball Association Championship was the qualifying tournament for the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship; it also served as a regional championship involving Southeast Asian basketball teams. 2009 FIBA Asia Championship
The 2009 FIBA Asia Championship for Men was the biennial Asian continental championship and also served as the FIBA Asia qualifying tournament for the 2010 FIBA World Championship. The tournament was held from August 6 to 16, 2009 in Tianjin, China. Iran managed to win its second straight FIBA Asia Championship by defeating China 70–52 in the final, although China's premier NBA superstar Yao Ming did not play due to an injury in the 2008-09 NBA season, which caused him to not play in that year's FIBA Asia Championship for China. Jordan defeated Lebanon 80–66 in the bronze medal game to claim the third and final automatic bid for the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
