The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television's 24th Gemini Awards were held on November 14, 2009, to honour achievements in Canadian television. The awards show, which was hosted by Ron James, took place at the Stampede Corral in Calgary and was broadcast on Showcase and Global. Stampede Corral
The Stampede Corral was a multi-purpose venue (ice hockey, professional wrestling, rodeo, tennis) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Located on the grounds of Stampede Park, the arena was completed in 1950 at a cost of C$1.25 million ($ million today) to replace Victoria Arena as the home of the Calgary Stampeders minor professional hockey club (not to be confused with the present-day Canadian Football League team of the same name), which hosted their Western Hockey League games for years. The Corral was built and owned by the not-for-profit Calgary Exhibition & Stampede organization, which leased the underlying land at $1/year from the city of Calgary. Simon Vaughan
Simon Vaughan (born 13 January 1970) is a British film and television producer and executive producer. Vaughan began his career as a child actor after being cast as Freddie Mainwaring in the BBC series ''Grange Hill''. In 2009 Vaughan founded Lookout Point, a London-based drama production company with his wife Justine Vaughan. At Lookout Point Vaughan acted as CEO (and later Chairman and Joint CEO) before stepping down in January 2019, following the sale of Lookout Point to the BBC. ''Diamonds'' is a French and Canadian-produced television series, which aired from September 22, 1987, to 1989. The show starred Nicholas Campbell as Mike Devitt and Peggy Smithhart as Christina Towne, former actors who had met and married while playing private investigators on a TV series called ''Two of Diamonds'', and continued to work together as real private investigators after both their divorce and the cancellation of their show. Stephen Garrett (born 16 April 1957) is a British film and television producer. He is best known for founding the Kudos production company, and executive producing the BBC spy drama '' Spooks.''
