2009 Gatineau Municipal Election
A municipal election was held in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada on November 1, 2009 in conjunction with municipal elections across Quebec on that date. Elections were held for Mayor of Gatineau as well as for each of the 18 districts on Gatineau City Council. Controversies Signs in the Gatineau area-sponsoring Lucerne District Councillor candidate Barbara Charlebois posters were removed and vandalized due to her election poster being primarily in English. A similar act of vandalism was perpetrated on the offices of the Regional Association of West Quebecers, a not-for profit organization that support English-Speakers in the community, of which Charlebois is vice-president. Jean-Roch Villemaire, a former provincial candidate for the extreme-separatist Parti indépendantiste, took responsibility for both situations. Gatineau
Gatineau ( ; ) is a city in western Quebec, Canada. It is located on the northern bank of the Ottawa River, immediately across from Ottawa, Ontario. Gatineau is the largest city in the Outaouais administrative region and is part of Canada's National Capital Region. Stéphane Lauzon
Stéphane Lauzon (born April 27, 1966) is a Canadian Liberal politician. Lauzon was elected to represent the riding of Argenteuil—La Petite-Nation in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2015 federal election. Lauzon worked at the Canadian International Paper Company in the 1980s, and returned to school in 1992 to become a certified vocational instructor. He worked in vocational training for twenty years thereafter, and then started a construction management company. He has since also taken classes toward a bachelor's degree in business administration at the Université du Québec en Outaouais. Lac-Beauchamp District (District 16) is a municipal electoral district in Gatineau, Quebec represented on Gatineau City Council. It is currently represented by Denis Girouard. Georges Bédard
Georges Bédard (born c. 1946 in Ottawa, Ontario) is a former member of Ottawa City Council representing the ward (politics), ward of Rideau-Vanier Ward, Rideau-Vanier. This ward covers Lower Town, Sandy Hill, Ottawa, Sandy Hill, and Vanier, Ontario, Vanier. Born and raised in the area Bédard currently lives in Sandy Hill. He attended Carleton University, where he obtained a degree in political science. He first became involved in local politics in the successful effort to block the construction of the King Edward Expressway. He was first elected to city council at a young age in 1974 and served on the council until 1980. During this period he was best known for his efforts at preserving heritage structures. Upon leaving the council he became president of the Heritage Canada, Heritage Canada Foundation. He is also among the founders of the Franco-Ontarian Festival, and of Ottawa's Pollution Probe. The Carrefour-de-l'Hôpital District (''English: Crossroads of the Hospital'') (District 13) is a municipal district in the city of Gatineau, Quebec. Pointe-Gatineau District, formerly Promenades District (District 12) is a municipal district in the city of Gatineau, Quebec. It is represented on Gatineau City Council by Mike Duggan. The district is located in the Gatineau sector of the city. From 2001 to 2009 it included the neighbourhoods of Place Lucerne, Parc Maisonneuve, Gatineau, Parc Maisonneuve, Val d'Oise, Gatineau, Val d'Oise and Le Barron.
