The 2009 Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup, FIVB Women's World Grand Champions Cup was held in Tokyo and Fukuoka, Japan from November 10 to November 15, 2009. Italy won the tournament with perfect record and Simona Gioli was selected Most Valuable Player. Teams Squads Competition formula The competition formula of the 2009 Women's World Grand Champions Cup was the single Round-Robin system. Each team plays once against each of the 5 remaining teams. Fabiana "Fabi" Alvim de Oliveira (born 7 March 1980 in Rio de Janeiro) is a retired volleyball player from Brazil who won the gold medal at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. Career Fabiana started playing volleyball at the age of 13, specializing in defense - and later the libero position - due to her short height. De Oliveira was first called up to the Brazil women's national volleyball team in 2002, under coach Marco Aurélio Motta. She lost her place under his replacement, José Roberto Guimarães, and only returned to being a mainstay of the team in 2005. At the 2007 Pan American Games, held in Rio de Janeiro, de Oliveira and the Brazilian team won the silver medal. : : : Altagracia () is a municipality in the Rivas Department of Nicaragua. It is the second largest town on the island of Ometepe. Prisilla Altagracia Rivera Brens (born December 29, 1984, in Santo Domingo) is a volleyball player from the Dominican Republic. Career 2000-2001 Rivera debuted in 2000 at the Nacional District Superior Tournament with Los Prados, being elected Rookie of the Year. She played with the Girls National Team at the 2001 FIVB U18 World Championship in Pula, Croatia, helping her team to reach the 8th place. Karla Miguelina Echenique (born May 16, 1986 in Santo Domingo) is a volleyball player from the Dominican Republic, who played as a setter for the Women's National Team at the 2008 Olympic Qualification Tournament in Japan, but did not qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics. She, and the Dominican Republic team did, however, qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics, where they finished 5th. Personal Life: Karla has a brother and more than one sister. Milagros Cabral De La Cruz (born October 17, 1978, in Santo Domingo) is a retired female volleyball player from the Dominican Republic who won the 1998 silver and three consecutive gold medals in 2002, 2006 and 2010 at the Central American and Caribbean Games. She competed for her native country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece and at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Great Britain and played in four consecutives World Championships from 1998 to 2010. Brenda Castillo (born June 5, 1992, in San Cristóbal) is a volleyball player from the Dominican Republic and plays as a libero. She was a member of the Dominican Republic national team that won fifth place in the 2012 Summer Olympics, while she was named the tournament's Best Libero. Lisvel Elisa Eve-Castillo ('' née'' Eve Mejía, born September 10, 1991 in Puerto Plata) is a female volleyball player from the Dominican Republic, who played for the Women's National Team at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
