2009 European Parliament Election In Finland
The 2009 European Parliament election in Finland was the election of the delegation from Finland to the European Parliament in 2009. Finland uses the open list D'Hondt method, where voters vote for an individual, but the individual's vote is counted primarily for the party and secondarily for the candidate. Parties receive seats in proportion to their share of the vote, and candidates from those parties are selected based on the votes they received individually. In European Parliament elections, the whole country forms a single constituency. Result Compared to the 2004 European Parliament election in Finland, the three major parties National Coalition Party, Centre Party, and Social Democrats (SDP) each lost a seat. Timo Juhani Soini (born 30 May 1962) is a Finnish politician who is the co-founder and former leader of the Finns Party. He served as Deputy Prime Minister of Finland from 2015 to 2017 and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2015 to 2019. He was elected as a member of the Espoo city council in 2000, and the Parliament of Finland in 2003. Satu Maijastiina Hassi (born 3 June 1951) is a Finnish politician, and former Member of the European Parliament for the Green League. She served as the Minister of Environment and Development Co-Operation in Paavo Lipponen's second cabinet between 15 April 1999 and 31 May 2002.
