2009 Connecticut Huskies Football Team
The 2009 Connecticut Huskies football team represented the University of Connecticut in the 2009 NCAA Division I FBS football season as a member of the Big East Conference. The team was coached by Randy Edsall and played its home games at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut. The team finished with a record of 8–5, 3–4 in Big East play and won the PapaJohns.com Bowl 20–7 against South Carolina. Preseason Coaching changes Connecticut lost its offensive coordinator of the previous three years when Rob Ambrose left the school to become the head coach at Towson. Randy Edsall
Randy Douglas Edsall (born August 27, 1958) is a retired American football coach, formerly the head football coach at the University of Connecticut from 1999 to 2010 and again from 2017 until his abrupt retirement in 2021. He also served as the head coach at the University of Maryland from 2011 to 2015 and as director of football research-special projects for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL) in 2016. During his first stint at UConn, he oversaw the program's promotion from the NCAA Division I-AA level to Division I-A. He is the program's all-time leader in wins and games coached. On September 5, 2021, Edsall announced he would retire after the conclusion of the 2021 season after an 0–2 start. 2009 NFL Draft
The 2009 NFL Draft was the seventy-fourth annual meeting of National Football League (NFL) franchises to select newly eligible football players. The draft took place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, New York, on April 25 and 26, 2009. The draft consisted of two rounds on the first day, starting at 4:00 pm EDT, and five rounds on the second day, starting at 10:00 am EDT. To compensate for the time change from the previous year and in an effort to help shorten the draft, teams were no longer on the clock for 15 minutes in the first round and 10 minutes in the second round. Each team now had 10 minutes to make their selection in the first round and seven minutes in the second round. Rounds three through seven were shortened to five minutes per team. Montreal Alouettes
The Montreal Alouettes (Canadian French, French: Les Alouettes de Montréal) are a professional Canadian football team based in Montreal, Quebec. Founded in 1946, the team has folded and been revived twice. Martin Bédard
Martin Bédard (born March 23, 1984) is a Canadian football long snapper who is currently a free agent. He most recently played for the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Previously, he played for 11 seasons and 179 games for the Montreal Alouettes. He is a two-time Grey Cup champion having won in 2009 and 2010. College career Bédard played college football for the UConn Huskies. Professional career Bédard was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the second round of the 2009 CFL Draft. Julius Williams
Julius Williams (born July 19, 1986) is a former American football defensive lineman. He last played for the Las Vegas Outlaws of the Arena Football League (AFL). He was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He played college football at Connecticut. Williams has also been a member of the Hartford Colonials. William Keith Beatty (born March 2, 1985) is a former American football offensive tackle. He played college football at Connecticut, and was drafted by the New York Giants in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He won two Super Bowl rings, one with the Giants when they won Super Bowl XLVI and one with the Eagles when they won Super Bowl LII, both over the New England Patriots.
