The 2009 Calgary Stampeders season was the 52nd season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 71st overall. The Stampeders attempted to repeat as Grey Cup champions. The Stampeders finished in second place with a 10–7–1 record. They appeared in the West Final but lost to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. John Hufnagel
John Coleman Hufnagel (born September 13, 1951) is the president and general manager of the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He was previously the Stampeders' head coach and played quarterback for fifteen professional seasons in the CFL and National Football League. Prior to his hiring to the Stampeders on December 3, 2007, he was the offensive coordinator of the New York Giants of the NFL. Playing career Hufnagel was an All-American at Penn State University in 1972, where he was the starting quarterback for three seasons with a 26–3 record under head coach Joe Paterno. As a junior, he was instrumental in the Nittany Lions' 30–6 Cotton Bowl victory in Dallas over the University of Texas. 2009 Montreal Alouettes Season
The 2009 CFL season, 2009 Montreal Alouettes season was the 43rd season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 55th overall. The Alouettes won their sixth Grey Cup championship, 28–27 against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, in a game the Montreal Alouettes trailed throughout, as they came back from trailing 27–11 four minutes into the fourth quarter. It was their first win since 2002, and it ended a streak of four Grey Cup losses in their last four appearances. Demetris Summers
Demetris Summers (born October 12, 1983) is a former Canadian football running back who played for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He was released by the team in April 2010. He was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2006. He played college football at South Carolina before being expelled from the team March 1, 2005 after the coaching change and did not play anywhere in the 2005 season before entering early for the 2006 NFL draft, where he was undrafted. Summers won the 96th Grey Cup as a member of the Stampeders. Early years Summers was a record setting running back at Lexington High School and was recruited as the No. 2 running back in the nation. Joffrey Reynolds
Joffrey Roy Reynolds (born November 26, 1979) is a former professional Canadian football running back. He played eight years for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League where he was the franchise's all-time leading rusher with 9,213 rushing yards. For six consecutive years Reynolds rushed for over 1,000 yards. He was named a CFL All-Star four times and won a Grey Cup championship with the Stampeders in 2008. Rob Cote (born July 5, 1986, in Calgary, Alberta) is a retired Canadian football fullback, who played 10 years for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He was originally signed by the Calgary Stampeders as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He also played in the Canadian Junior Football for the Victoria Rebels. Jon Cornish
Jon Cornish (born November 5, 1984) is a former Canadian football running back who played nine seasons with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was drafted 13th overall in the 2006 CFL Draft after playing college football at the University of Kansas. Cornish was inducted as a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2019. While at Kansas, Cornish set the KU single-season rushing record with 1,457 yards and was selected First Team All-Big XII in his senior year. During his collegiate career, he was also selected Team Offensive MVP in both his junior year and senior year. Drew Tate
Drew Tate (born October 8, 1984) is an American gridiron football coach and former player. He is the tight ends coach at the University of Northern Iowa, a position he had held since 2022. He played college football as a quarterback at the University of Iowa and was signed by the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League (NFL) as an undrafted free agent in 2007. Tate has played professionally for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Calgary Stampeders and Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Henry Burris
Henry Armand Burris Jr. (born June 4, 1975) is a gridiron football coach, former professional quarterback, and a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. He is currently an offensive quality control coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League (NFL) and was formerly an offensive quality control coach for the Chicago Bears. 2009 Saskatchewan Roughriders Season
The 2009 Saskatchewan Roughriders season was the 52nd season for the team in the Canadian Football League. The Roughriders attempted to win their 4th Grey Cup championship but lost to the Alouettes in the Grey Cup final. During the 2009 Grey Cup on the second last play of the game, Sean Lucas of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, lined up as a slot back, behind a defensive linesman, during the missed kick attempt by Montreal. With 11 players already on the defensive line, and with 1 player, Jason Armstead, in the end-zone to return any missed kicks, Sean Lucas, a defensive linebacker, was on the field as a defender, & therefore, the 13th man on the field, causing the penalty on the play, and providing Montreal with another opportunity to win the 2009 Grey Cup.
