2009 CIS Women's Volleyball Championship
The 2009 CIS Women's Volleyball Championship was held February 26, 2009 to February 28, 2009, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, to determine a national champion for the 2008–09 CIS women's volleyball season. The tournament was played at the Aitken University Centre and was hosted by the University of New Brunswick. It was the second consecutive year that the University of New Brunswick had hosted the tournament following their first ever hosting duties in 2008. The Canada West champion UBC Thunderbirds repeated as national champions following their five-set match victory over the fourth-seeded Calgary Dinos. The Thunderbirds became the first team to win consecutive championships since the Manitoba Bisons in 2001 and 2002. U Sports Women's Volleyball
U Sports women's volleyball is the highest level of amateur play of indoor volleyball in Canada and operates under the auspices of U Sports (formerly Canadian Interuniversity Sport). 41 teams from Canadian universities are divided into four athletic conferences, drawing from the four regional associations of U Sports: Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CW), Ontario University Athletics (OUA), Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), and Atlantic University Sport (AUS). Following intra-conference playoffs, eight teams are selected to play in a national tournament to compete for the U Sports women's volleyball championship. Manitoba Bisons
The Manitoba Bisons are the athletic teams that represent the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The football team plays their games at Investors Group Field. The soccer team play their home games at the University of Manitoba Soccer Fields while the track and field teams use the University Stadium as their home track. Shanice Marcelle
Shanice Marcelle (born May 28, 1990) is a Canadian female volleyball player and assistant coach for the York Lions women's volleyball team. She is a five-time CIS volleyball champion as a university athlete and two-time Bundesliga champion as a professional athlete. Individually, she was twice awarded the CIS women's volleyball player of the year in 2011 and 2013, was the 2011 CIS volleyball championship MVP, and was named the 2013 winner of the BLG Award as the best female athlete in all of Canadian Interuniversity Sport. Marisa Field
Marisa Field is a Canadian volleyball player who twice represented her home country in the FIVB World Championship, in 2010 and 2014. She is a member of the Canada national team. She won the 2009 & 2011 NORCECA Championship Best Blocker award and played the FIVB World Grand Prix in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Career Field studied in the University of British Columbia Okanagan and played with the Okanagan Lakers from 2004-2006, winning the British Columbia Colleges' Athletic Association All-Star the two seasons she played there. The York Lions is the official name for the athletic varsity teams that represent York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Trinity Western Spartans
The Trinity Western Spartans are the athletic teams that represent Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia. The university's teams are members of U Sports, and compete in the Canada West Universities Athletics Association, and where applicable, in the Pacific division.
