2009 Australia Day Honours
The 2009 Australia Day Honours are appointments to various orders and honours to recognise and reward good works by Australian citizens. The list was announced on 26 January 2009 by the Governor General of Australia, Quentin Bryce. The Australia Day Honours are the first of the two major annual honours lists, the first announced to coincide with Australia Day (26 January), with the other being the Queen's Birthday Honours, which are announced on the second Monday in June. † indicates an award given posthumously. Australian Honours System
The Australian honours and awards system refers to all Order (distinction), orders, decorations, and medals, as instituted by letters patent from the Monarchy of Australia, Monarch of Australia and countersigned by the Australian prime minister at the time, that have been progressively introduced since 14 February 1975. The Australian honours and awards system excludes all state and local government, and private, issued awards and medals (although a few can be recognised in the Australian Honours Order of Wearing, order of wearing, like those in the Order of Saint John (chartered 1888), Order of St John). David Klingberg
David John Klingberg is a South Australian businessman, civil engineer and former Chancellor of the University of South Australia (1998–2008). Between 1986 and 1998, Klingberg was managing director of engineering firm Kinhill Ltd. Klingberg is also a former director of Codan Ltd, Barossa Infrastructure Ltd, Snowy Hydro Ltd and former chair of the Premier's Climate Change Council in South Australia. Bill Casimaty
Bill Gabriel Casimaty (21 August 1935 – 6 July 2019) was an Australian farmer and agriculturalist. Casimaty studied at Dookie Agricultural College and in 1957 took over management of his family's farm in Richmond, Tasmania. In 1966 he won a Nuffield Farming Scholarship, which he used to investigate turf farming in the United States. On his return, he established Strathayr Turf, which would go on to supply the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Flemington Racecourse, and Lord's, among others. Hedley Beare (28 November 19325 September 2010) was an Australian educator, administrator and author. He led the creation of the Northern Territory and ACT education systems. Beare wrote, co-wrote or edited 18 books and contributed 40 book chapters and hundreds of journal articles. Wayne "Rabbit" Bartholomew (born; 30 November 1954) is an Australian world champion surfer, surf sports innovator, community advocate and politician. Geoffrey John Atherden , credited also as Geoff Atherden, is an Australian television screenwriter and playwright, especially of comedy. He is best known for creating the sitcom ''Mother and Son''. Rear Admiral Davyd Rhys Thomas, (born 2 May 1956) is a senior officer in the Royal Australian Naval Reserve. Naval career Davyd Rhys Thomas was born on 2 May 1956 in Newcastle, New South Wales, and joined the Royal Australian Navy College from that city in 1974. After gaining a Bridge Watchkeeping Certificate in 1978, he served as executive officer of HMAS ''Aware'', a Darwin-based patrol boat. Bernard George Teague, AO, was a Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria, in Australia, between 13 October 1987 and 15 February 2008. Colin Sullivan is an Australian physician, professor, and inventor known for his invention of the nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) circuit, made of continuous flow machine and vented nasal mask, in June 1980.
