2009 Aruban General Election
General elections were held in Aruba on 25 September 2009. The elections were the seventh to be held for membership of the Estates since autonomy was granted by the Dutch in 1986, and resulted in a victory for the Aruban People's Party, which won 12 of the 21 seats in the Estates. Background Prior to this election the People's Electoral Movement (MEP) were the governing party, holding eleven seats. The main opposition Aruban People's Party (AVP) held eight with the Network of Electoral Democracy and the Aruban Patriotic Movement holding a seat apiece. Electoral system The 21 members of the Estates were elected for a four-year term using proportional representation, carried out in a single nationwide constituency. Aruba ( , , ), officially the Country of Aruba ( nl, Land Aruba; pap, Pais Aruba) is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands physically located in the mid-south of the Caribbean Sea, about north of the Venezuela peninsula of Paraguaná and northwest of Curaçao. The Aruban Liberal Organization (''Organisacion Liberal Arubiano'', OLA) is a liberal political party in Aruba. At the last elections for the Estates, 28 September 2001, the party won 5.7% of popular votes and 1 out of 21 seats. On 23 September 2005, the party won only 4% of the popular vote and lost its seat. Santa Cruz, Aruba
Santa Cruz is a Region and Town in central Aruba, dominated by the Arikok National Park. The town is connected by Highway 7 from west to east and Highway 4 from north to south. The district has an area of 41.04 square kilometers and 12,870 inhabitants according to the 2010 census. Santa Cruz is divided into several neighborhoods, including, but not limited to, Boton, Bringamosa, Cas Ariba, Jamanota, Jan Flemming, Macuarima, San Fuego, Shete, Siribana, Urataka, Warawara, and Catashi. San Nicolas, Aruba
San Nicolaas ( nl, Sint Nicolaas) is southeast of Oranjestad, and is Aruba's second largest city. it has a population of 15,283, most of whom originate from the British Caribbean and rest of the Caribbean. Noord () is a town and region in Aruba (part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands). This town is known for its low rise and high rise hotels, restaurants, beaches, malls, the California Lighthouse, and other places of attraction. Doina Eman
The doina () is a Romanian musical tune style, possibly with Middle Eastern roots, customary in Romanian peasant music, as well as in Lăutărească. It was also adopted into klezmer music. Similar tunes are found throughout Eastern Europe and the Balkans. In some parts of the Balkans this kind of music is referred to as or . Henny Eman
Jan Hendrik Albert "Henny" Eman (born 20 March 1948) is an Aruban retired politician. He was the first Prime Minister of Aruba from 1 January 1986 to 9 February 1989 and again from 29 July 1994 to 30 October 2001. Introduction Jan Hendrik Albert Eman, simply known as Henny, was born on Aruba on 20 March 1948. Oranjestad, Aruba
Oranjestad ( , , ; literally "Orange City") is the capital and largest city of Aruba, a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is located on the southern coast near the western end of the island country. In the local language, Papiamento, Oranjestad is often referred to as "Playa".
