2009 America East Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2009 America East men's basketball tournament was held from March 6–8 through at SEFCU Arena place on the University at Albany, SUNY, University at Albany campus. The final was held on March 14 at the Binghamton University Events Center, Events Center, the home court of the Binghamton Bearcats, who were the highest remaining seed. The Bearcats earned their first ever trip to the 2009 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament, NCAA tournament, and were given the #15 seed in the East Regional. They played 2008–09 Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team, Duke in the first round of the Tournament, losing 86–62. Vermont gained a bid to the 2009 College Basketball Invitational, and won in the first round against 76–72, but would lose in the Quarter-Finals against 2008–09 Oregon State Beavers men's basketball team, Oregon State by a score of 71–70 in Overtime. SEFCU Arena is a 4,538-seat multi-purpose arena in Guilderland, New York, Guilderland, New York (state), New York. It is home to the University at Albany, The State University of New York, University at Albany men's and women's Albany Great Danes, Great Danes basketball teams. 2008–09 Albany Great Danes Men's Basketball Team
The 2008–09 Albany Great Danes men's basketball team represented the University at Albany, SUNY during the 2008–09 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Great Danes, led by eighth year head coach Will Brown, played their home games at SEFCU Arena as members of the America East Conference. They finished the season 15–16, 6–10 in America East play to finish in seventh place. As the seventh seed in the 2009 America East tournament, they upset second seed Vermont in the first round before losing to sixth seed UMBC in the semifinals. America East Conference
The America East Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I founded in 1979, whose members are located in the Northeastern United States. The conference has nine core members including eight public research universities, three of which, the University of Maine, the University of New Hampshire, and the University of Vermont, are the flagship universities of their states. The two non-flagship university centers of the State University of New York are in the conference: the University at Albany and Binghamton University. Bryant University is the only private university among the core membership. Of the nine members, eight are located within the borders of 7 contiguous states. The MVP Arena (originally Knickerbocker Arena, and then the Pepsi Arena and Times Union Center) is an indoor arena located in Albany, New York. Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC, ) is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I. Of its current 11 full members, 10 are located in three states of the northeastern United States: Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. The other member is in Maryland. Members are all relatively small private institutions, a majority Catholic or formerly Catholic, with the only exceptions being two secular institutions: Rider University and Quinnipiac University. 2008–09 Hartford Hawks Men's Basketball Team
The Hartford Hawks men's basketball team is the basketball team that represents University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut. The school's team currently competes as an Independent. In 2008, Hartford made the America East tournament championship game falling to UMBC 65–82. In 2021, they defeated UMass Lowell, 64–50, to make their first NCAA Division I Tournament. On May 6, 2021, the University of Hartford Board of Regents voted to drop its athletic department to Division III. The drop is set to take place no later than September 1, 2025. The most notable basketball player to play for Hartford is Vin Baker, who played parts of 14 seasons in the NBA, was named to four All-Star Games, and won a gold medal for the United States men's basketball team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
