2008–09 Primera División (Costa Rica)
The Invierno 2008–09 season started on July 27 with 2 groups of 6 teams, they will play twice (home and away) with the teams of their own group (10 games) and once with the teams of the other group (6 games), for a total of 16 games. The 3 top teams of each group qualify for the playoffs. The winners of group A and B get a bye week, while the 2nd of group A plays the 3rd of group B and the 2nd of group B plays the 3rd of group A. The winners of these series move to the semi-final series. The home field advantage in the playoffs is given to the team with the best record in the group stage. The winner of the playoff series will gain entry into the group stage of the 2009–10 CONCACAF Champions League. The runner-up will gain entry into the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League preliminary round. If the same team wins both the Invierno and Verano tournaments then the preliminary round spot will be awarded to the team with the next best regular season record in the Verano tournament. ...

The Primera División of Costa Rica, commonly known as Fútbol de Primera División (FPD), and Liga Promerica for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional association football division in Costa Rica. It is administered by the Unión de Clubes de Fútbol de la Primera División (UNAFUT). The league consists of 12 teams, with the last-placed team relegated to the Liga de Ascenso. The league was founded in 1921, with Herediano crowned as the first champions. Saprissa is the most successful club having won the championship a record 37 times. Liga Deportiva Alajuelense (LDA, ), commonly known as Alajuelense and nicknamed La Liga (), is a Costa Rican multisport club based in the borough of El Llano, Alajuela, Alajuela province. Although they compete in a number of different sports, Alajuelense is mostly known for its association football team. Asociación Deportiva San Carlos is a Costa Rican football team based in Ciudad Quesada, the capital of San Carlos, Alajuela. They currently play in the Costa Rican First Division. Their home stadium is Estadio Carlos Ugalde Álvarez. History The club was founded on 9 May 1965, after local clubs ''El Refugio'' and ''El Maravilla'' merged to become ''Selección de San Carlos'' and winning promotion to the Primera División in 1965. They were relegated in 1971 and stayed in the Second División until returning at the top level in 1978. In 2004 they were relegated again after 25 years in the Primera, staying in the second tier for another two years. In May 2006 they beat Cartagena in a promotion playoff final and from 2006 through 2013 they were in the Primera before descending once more in 2013.
