2008–09 NBB Season
Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) is the Brazilian basketball league, created in 2008 as the new format to the Campeonato Brasileiro de Basquete. NBB is fully organized by the participating clubs, as an attempt to reorganize and rebuild the Brazilian basketball. The form of dispute follows a similar model adopted by the NBA and European countries. The first edition was disputed by fifteen teams playing each other in the round and second round at the classification stage. At the end of two rounds, the top eight teams qualify for the playoffs in best of five matches, advances to the next phase who win three games. Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) (English: New Basketball Brazil) is the Brazilian premier professional men's basketball league. It is organized by the Liga Nacional de Basquete (LNB) (National Basketball League), in a new format of Brazil's previous top-tier level basketball competition, the Campeonato Brasileiro de Basquete (Brazilian Basketball Championship). The NBB is managed by the Brazilian basketball associations, which were founding members of the LNB. Format The NBB is the annual basketball league that is promoted by the national Brazilian league (LNB) organizing body, and is endorsed by the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CFB). The first phase of the season consists of fifteen teams playing against each other, on a home and away basis. Esporte Clube Pinheiros, or Pinheiros Basquete, is a Brazilian professional basketball team that is based in São Paulo, Brazil. The club's name is commonly abbreviated as E.C. Pinheiros, or E.C.P. Ginásio Álvaro Vieira Lima is an indoor arena that is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The arena has a seating capacity of 2,000 people for volleyball matches, and 3,000 people basketball games. Carlos Alexandre Rodrigues do Nascimento (born April 18, 1983), commonly known as Carlos Olivinha, or simply Olivinha, is a Brazilian professional basketball player that currently plays for Flamengo of Novo Basquete Brasil. At 6'8" (2.03 m), he can play at either the small forward or power forward positions, with power forward being his main position. He was born in Rio de Janeiro. Marcus Vinicius Vieira de Souza (born May 31, 1984), commonly known as Marquinhos Vieira, or simply Marquinhos, is a Brazilian professional basketball player. He currently plays with São Paulo FC in the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). He also represents the senior Brazilian national team. At a height of 2.07 m (6'9") tall, and a weight of 102 kg (225 lbs.), he can play at both the small forward and power forward positions.
