2008–09 Maltese Second Division
The 2008–09 Maltese Second Division season, also known as the 2008–09 BOV 2nd Division due to sponsorship reason) started on 27 September 2008 and ended on 10 May 2009. Mellieha and Marsa were relegated from the First Division. The promoted teams were Gozo FC and Zebbug Rangers. Zebbug had to start the season with a five point deduction due to incidents which occurred the previous season. The 2008–09 Maltese Second Division was won by Balzan Youths.The runners-up were Melita, who finished 2 points off Lija Athletic. Mgarr United and Marsa were relegated to the Third Division. This was the third straight relegation for Marsa, who 3 years previously were competing in the Premier League and now have to compete in the Third Division. Maltese Second Division
The Maltese Second Division (also known as the BOV Second Division due to sponsorship reasons) was the third-highest division in Maltese football until 2020 when it was merged with the Maltese Third Division to create the National Amateur League. Structure 13 clubs formed the league and each played every other club twice. Three points were awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. At the end of the season, the top two teams were promoted to the First Division, while the bottom two were relegated to the Third Division. The 2009–10 Maltese First Division season started in October 2009 and ended in May 2010. Vittoriosa Stars ( 2008–09 Maltese First Division Runners up) and Marsaxlokk (2008–09 Maltese Premier League 4th place) were both found guilty of corruption and demoted into the First Division. The Maltese Third Division 2007–08 (known as BOV 3rd Division due to sponsorship reasons) was the 8th season and started on 21 September 2007 and finished on 18 May.For the first time the Division was divided into two sections:A and B.Section A consisted of 10 teams and Section B of 9.The winners of Section A were Zebbug Rangers and those of Section B were Gozo FC.Both were promoted to the 2nd Division.The overall champions were Gozo FC who beat Zebbug 3-1.The match was abandoned on 57 minutes. The Maltese Third Division 2008–09 (known as the BOV 3rd Division 2008–09 due to sponsorship reasons) is the 9th season of the Maltese Third Division. It started in September 2008 and ended in late May 2009, with the promotion play-off finals. This division is divided into two sections: Section A, with ten teams and Section B, with nine. The winners from both sections will face each other in a play-off where the winner is crowned as champion of this division, but both teams will still be given promotion to the Second Division. Gharghur were the winners of Section A, while Gzira United were the winners of Section B. Gzira United finished the season as overall champions after they beat Gharghur 3–0. Żebbuġ ( mt, Ħaż-Żebbuġ) , also known by its title Città Rohan, is a city in the Northern Region of Malta. It is one of the oldest towns in the country, and its population is 11,074 as of June 2021. History and origins The parish Church is dedicated to Philip of Agira and the feast is celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of June, although the actual feast day falls on the 12th day of May.
