2008–09 Israeli Basketball State Cup
The 2008-09 Israeli Basketball State Cup was the 49th edition of the Israeli Basketball State Cup, organized by the Israel Basketball Association. 26 teams took part in the competition. The semifinals and finals were played at the Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv. Hapoel Holon defeated Maccabi Haifa 69-68 in the final, Brian Tolbert hitting a three point buzzer beater to win the match. It was Hapoel Holon's 1st Israeli State Cup, after losing 5 finals. Preliminary round 4 Liga Leumit teams have been drawn to play a preliminary round to earn a spot in the main draw. Main draw Following IBA's rules, the current champions, Hapoel Holon, and the cup holders, Hapoel Jerusalem, have been drawn straight into the quarterfinals, into different halves of the draw. Two other random teams, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Afula, have been drawn straight into the second round. The Israeli Basketball State Cup ( he, גביע המדינה בכדורסל) is the second most important professional basketball competition in Israel, after the Israeli Basketball Super League, Israeli Super League. It is the national federation cup of Israel. The tournament began in the 1955–56 season, and is run by the Israel Basketball Association. In the 21–22 season, the tournament format was changed so that only the first 8 teams at the end of the first rotation of the Israeli Basketball Premier League will compete. The quarter-final matches will be drawn between the teams in places 1-4 against 5-8 for a one-game elimination match. BJ McKie
Bjorn "BJ" McKie (born April 7, 1977) is an American former professional basketball player and current assistant coach at Wake Forest. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, McKie went to high school at Irmo High School and played for the University of South Carolina men's basketball team. Aaron DeShon McGhee (born June 28, 1979) is an American former professional basketball player. And now coach/owner of team United Texas. College career McGhee started his career at Cincinnati, where he played the 1998-99 season and averaged 2.8 points and 1.9 rebounds in 30 games.
