The Frauen-Bundesliga 2008–2009 is the 19th season of the Frauen-Bundesliga, Germany's premier women's football league. It began on 7 September 2008 and ended on 7 June 2009. The Frauen-Bundesliga (German for ''Women's Federal League''), currently known as the FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga for sponsorship reasons, is the top level of league competition for women's association football in Germany. In 1990 the German Football Association (DFB) created the German Women's Bundesliga, based on the model of the men's Bundesliga. It was first played with north and south divisions, but in 1997 the groups were merged to form a uniform league. The league currently consists of twelve teams and the seasons usually last from late summer to the end of spring with a break in the winter. Despite the league's competitiveness, it has been semi-professional. VfL Wolfsburg has won the most championships. SC 07 Bad Neuenahr
SC 07 Bad Neuenahr was a German football club from Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, Rhineland-Palatinate. The best-known section within the club was its women's football team, which was founded in 1969 and won the German Championship in 1978. ''Sportclub Bad Neuenahr'' was a founding member of Germany's women's Bundesliga and played in the top division from 1997 until 2013. Kerstin Garefrekes
Kerstin Garefrekes (born 4 September 1979) is a German former footballer who played as a striker or midfielder . Career Club Garefrekes began her career in 1986 at her local football club Grün-Weiß Steinbeck, before joining DJK Arminia Ibbenbüren. In 1998, she moved to the newly founded Bundesliga side FFC Heike Rheine. Garefrekes was relegated to the second division with Heike Rheine in 1999, but achieved immediate promotion back to the Bundesliga the following season. With 26 goals, she won the 2003–04 Bundesliga top scorer award. In 2004, Garefrekes transferred to 1. FFC Frankfurt, where she claimed several major titles. She won the Bundesliga trophy and the German Cup title three times each. During the 2005–06 and 2007–08 seasons, Garefrekes also won the UEFA Women's Cup at Frankfurt. Nina Aigner
Nina Aigner (born 20 June 1980) is a former Austrian international football player. She played her entire senior career for Bayern Munich, and also played on the Austrian national team between 1998 and 2006. Aigner played as a midfield, but was renowned for her goal scoring qualities. She was the second top scorer of the 2002-03 Bundesliga, next to Inka Grings. Martina Müller (footballer)
Martina Müller (born 18 April 1980) is a retired German footballer. She played as a striker for VfL Wolfsburg and the German national team. Career Club Müller had played at several smaller clubs at youth level, before joining the reigning German champions FSV Frankfurt in 1998. Because many of club's star players, such as Birgit Prinz and Sandra Smisek, had left that summer, Müller immediately became a regular starter and helped the team avoid relegation. After two years, she moved to SC 07 Bad Neuenahr, where she played for four seasons. In 2005, she joined VfL Wolfsburg, at a time when the club had just been relegated to the second division. With 36 goals, Müller was the second Bundesliga top-scorer the following season, helping Wolfsburg to achieve immediate promotion back to the German top flight. Anja Mittag (; born 16 May 1985) is a German football coach and player who plays as a striker. Mittag is currently a player-coach for RB Leipzig. In July 2020, Mittag announced that she will end her playing career after the women's Saxony Cup final on 30 August 2020 and become a full-time coach with RB Leipzig. SGS Essen are a German multi-sports club based in Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The club was founded in 2000 from the merger of ''VfB Borbeck'' and ''SC Grün-Weiß Schönebeck''.
